Vista wont display 85Hz refresh rate in 1280x720 resolution by Mike on 02-12-2007 at 08:14 PM

Graphics Card: ATI X1950 Pro.
Connecting through HDMI to DVI.

As the title says, vista won't display 85Hz refresh rate on resolution 1280x720.
I need it because our 42" HDTV (I don't think it's true HD) Phillips TV (not sure about the model number) will display black borders around the image when it's on that resolution and not on 85Hz.
I have checked on the settings to make sure that it's not configurated to display black borders.

I don't know why it won't work on vista... It works fine in XP (displays 85Hz)...
I have downloaded the latest drivers for Vista from ATI's site.

An interesting fact is that when I click a button in the configuration window that adds a custom resolution, it displays some buttons for defining the resolution and a white background which occupies the whole screen. When the resolution is set to 1280x720 it doesn't display the black borders! But it will display them again after clicking "done"

Another (kinda) big problem (unrelated to this one) is that when I change the channel on the TV and then going back to the HDMI channel where the PC screen should be, it won't work. The way to fix it is to use a remote assistance program to connect to that computer using another computer and then change the resolution.

have you tried unchecking "hide modes that this monitor doesn't support" in the refresh rate dialog?
