I got about £1000 to spend. I mainly want the computer for gaming. Steam run games like counter strike ect. So i guess i need a good grafics card. I want a super fast machine. What should i get? Also can you tell me some other benafits or negatives to getting a mac or getting a pc?

gaming - pc
macs are mainly used for design (audio/video editing, photoshoping, etc)

PC all the way (especially for gaming) as I think PC has better programs
and most important PLUS! is not supported on mac

In general Macs are better than PC's, but if you're a hardcore gamer, the choice is a PC.

Anyway i think you should get a Pc. Pc is good for everything, and itsb est for gaming.

well for me i would get the mac, if its a desktop you want then i would get the imac 20" with

intel dual core 2.13GHz processor

2GB of DDR2 SDRAM

250GB hard drive

ATI Radeon x1600/256MB Grapics card

and any extra's that you want.

Without any extra's on that config. above it comes to $1749 which is about £916


If you wanted to go for a PC i would personally go for a Mesh
The one i would reccomend would be This one



TBH i think you should get a Mac And if you really really want you could run windows via Bootcamp...the best of both world :D

EDIT: also whatever it is that you decide to buy please make sure that you get a nice big moniter :d IMO they almost make a desktop complete, the bigger the res. i think the better :d i would go for 19" and up.

ok seriously people are forgetting about Bootcamp, paralells and the lot.

Nowadays it's possible to run Mac OS X on Standard PC hardware and vice versa (although mac on PC isn't really stable, legal or supported) then there's always linux, but I'd wait until Ubuntu Feisty Fawn DVD (due mid april) release, hopefully by then beryl will be pretty solid as the developers plan to include it with Ubuntu, and if you look on youtube you'll see many videos of people showing off ubuntu+beryl emulating windows and mac whilst doing lots of other cool stuff :P

I would personally go with a PC if i were you cutegirl, mesh computers do some good PC's, if you really wanted tip top gaming performance check out some DX10 graphics cards, downside to this is by the time a DX10 comes out your graphics card will be outdated and stuff

Macs are great and can be fun, but quite a lack of games in comparrison, video editing is far more easier on macs (unfortunatley) and apple have their iLife suite which is handy for some.

Age old tech advice though, WAIT and RESEARCH.

Literally just around the corner there are DX10 gfx cards, Big name Software suite updates (Adobe, Adobe Macromedia, Autodesk etc) Apple Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, iLife 07 blah blah blah

whatever route you choose (PC ;)) I hope you enjoy and utilize it to the maximum. :)

If you wanna play games, and plan to do it a lot, get a PC. Many games can be ran under Linux using Wine, but it will be so much easier just running Windows. It's not that the Macs aren't good to play games on, they simply don't run most games.

It's a shame that this video was filmed at the time of Mac OS 8. Things have changed, a lot. And besides, there are loads of videos about how Windows sucks too.

Wow, once again you guys seem to be forgetting that a Mac is a PC and can run Windows!

Not only can you run the worlds most advanced operating system (OS X), but they can also natively run Windows or even run Windows virtualised inside OS X.

As for PCs being more affordable, it's been proven time and time again that an equivalent brand name PC is generally around the same price as an equivalent Mac.

Get a Mac - you can have both worlds, Windows and OS X.
