Password protected chat logs - request for feature by Nathan on 03-04-2007 at 12:03 PM

Ok,
I was thinking (oh dear) and I thought there has to be a way to gain back your passwords with out your password.
So that if the user did forget there password they have some chance of getting it back.

Heres a few i thought of:

- When they set the chat logs to protect they have to supply a email address
- When they set the chat logs to protect they have to choose a secret question and answer

Thats all of the effective ones i can think of.

Your probably thinking whats the point in supplying my email and a secret question!

The answer to that is:
- If you forget your password you can have your password sent to your email but instead of the proper password maybe a temp one that they can then change the password.
- If you forget the password you can then answer the secret question and it will give you a temp password and the opportunity to change it.

Any feedback for this idea would be great :)

I'd like to know some of your ideas as well :)

I think the email address idea is not the best but the secret question is probably better.  The only problem exists when they either make the answer too easy (like someone else who uses the computer would be able to answer it too) or if they forgot the answer if it was too hard.  But good suggestions, I would still like the option not to have a secret question too....

I don't like this idea. The more you provide tools to regain a password the more it becomes "hacker/crack" vulnerable. If logs are that important don't encrypt them and if you do, write the password down in a booklet or something wich you hide from others.

I can't see how you want to make Plus! email you a password wich is encrypted and on your comp only either. Plus! is not an email client. For that to be possible passwords would have to be stored on a Plus! server somewhere with an app that can send out emails..again another place where stuff is stored wich can/might be hacked. Not to mention the amount of space and bandwith such a thing would need.

Yeah but as markee said you dont have to do it.

And if patchou codes it in a proper way then it will be secure
