Vista sound problems... ;/ by Oxy on 03-13-2007 at 04:30 PM

bah, For some reason Last night vista stopped sending any sounds. At first i thought "well, wtf.. oh well, will be fixed next reboot"
But now i have Tried rebooting several times, changing the ports the speakers in, and un-pluging/re-pluging the speakers mains socket. Still no good.
Anybody know of any resolution to the sound problem? or any good sound drivers that will work on vista?

-Windows vista Ultimate
-and some really old TINY speakers (if anyone really remembers them :P )

EDIT I also just noticed that music wont even attempt to play i n foobar ^o)

Uninstall and reinstall the latest drivers. (And check to see if there are any Vista specific drivers for them.)

1. Tiny went out of business years ago, i need new speakers
2. i never installed the drivers for them in the first place anyway, and they worked on a clean install of vista up untill now..

Is there anyway i can find out what make my sound card is without opening the PC?

WINKEY - Break (opens System applet) hardware tab > Device manager. Find Audio devices, hopefully your sound card will be there

here's mine as an example

Try disabling it and enabling it again, i had a similar problem on my old PC...

RE: Vista sound problems... ;/ by Oxy on 03-13-2007 at 05:44 PM

Nope, not working..
Also, when i turn up full, i can hear a slight buzzing... it's not very loud though, and probably very insignificant

When u access "Sounds and Audio Devices in control panel what message do u get?

If it looks like u have no problem with drivers do the following:
go to your audio mixer in control panel and make sure your WAVE buss is not muted and the fader is all the way up

im guessing its an Intel Motherboard? wouldn't the drivers be on the Intel site?

also check to see if there are any conflicts by right clicking on the Device an choosing Properties an click on the Resources tab

That driver caused me some problem on my other computer. It's a pretty bad generic driver, and generally doesn't seem to work at all. If you can find a program to check what sound card you have (or give up and open it) you could check it out and get some drivers

That's most likely the only way to get it working, as it seems the generic drivers are rather bad.

The buzzing is probably just noise from the sound adaptor, and would be there even when it was working fine. At least you know that the adaptor isn't fried.

i'm not sure, but it came with a CD with all necessary drivers included, so i just installed all of those... :/
I'll check intel site now, thanks :)

EDIT: i need to find out the sound card type/name... :^)

Is your PC custom built? or is it like Hp/compaq/ Dell?

Can you post what was wrong with it and how you fixed it so if similar problems arise.

I'm not sure.. my driver software must have auto-updated, it just started working randomly.. ^o)
