After some suggestions in the shoutbox, I decided that I would fix the page headers, because WDZ sucks at page design

ANYWAYS, here's what I have for a first round draft:

header background:

I think the MP!L logo may be slightly too big. And the "Messenger Plus! Live" text should be in line with the "The Windows Live Messenger Extension" text.

i happen to disagree, i think with the  flowers makes the website or would make it more attractive

Considering WDZ didn't design it, I find that hard to believe.

It was designed by Guido and designed to match the layout of the site.

Perhaps more fading might be a lot better. I had no idea that the 2 'sections' were one image.

I think the flowers should atleast be created in paint or something, not real actual pictures. little odd looking flowers would look cute and springy :D

or yeah, as supersonicdarky suggested little sprouts of grass through the snow (as it was, you know the snow hillish things?) or even the flowers popping out of it... blah i dont know

- Reflections... Like Felu's, but the reflection will be closer to the text.
- Curved light....
- Logo replaced with higher quality one. (Cut & paste from this wallpaper)
- An exclamation sign soft light. (Cut & paste from this wallpaper)
- Some soft shadows..... Really soft; may be unnoticable..

The design is very good, but we should still remember that this forum is supposed to be an extension of msgpluslive.net, and so maybe we should make the headers match (by changing this one, or the msgpluslive.net one)

No the stripes are nicer it gets rid of the plainess and replaces it with something thats simple and sweet.

But that logo is for MSN Messenger, and messenger plus live is for Windows Live Messenger which doesn't use that logo anymore.

Please, don't make season-like logos.

You should know already that summer is already over down here in the southern hemisphere. I can deal with the fact that christmas is associated with snow by everyone, even if it's usually sunny and damn hot over here at that time of the year. But i'd hate to see fancy flowers on autumn/winter, now THAT'D be annoying, seriously :P

well here is the code I have just added for Stylish for my header (which I had to recreate from scratch after losing the source image :P).

But seeing as it is a transparent png for the logo, you will need to add some transparent png hacks for IE6 (does anyone still use IE6? :P).

Either that or... you can use this alternative modification so it is guaranteed to appear correctly without a transparent background:

They're staying how they are right now. I made them darker but having them match the text colour looked really bad.

I dont see any 'summer' in it... I only see a blue ribbon which looks nothing like a sky but more like a dark/light blue circus tent pattern.

The logo is good but the background is just crappy. I really don't understand why so many people 'like' it.

When one uses a repeated background you must be carefull that the pattern doesn't look repeated and thus doesn't end up looking totally different than intended. Which is what happened.

vikke's design looks way more professional, fun, and 'summer' (if you must associate it with a season).

The way I see it is that it is a shiny and clear sky. That is enough of a summer sky for me.

:S.. Don't say it's crappy.. The reason you don't like it is the same reason we actually do like it.. It's called preferences and different tastes, I think most of the forum members agreed on that one.. so why are we getting back on this..?

Can't you select your own header by changing themes..? If it bothers you to that point.. Just do.

offtopic : by the way, there's no point of calling the background crappy.. if eljay puts half the effort I put in doing my graphics, this only sends a negative message to him.

I think it is crappy... I will not say it is nice if I think it isn't... looks very grainy and the fixed pattern of light and dark blue isn't anything like a sky at all. It looks like the billion other cheap hr-banners you'll find everywhere. If anything he should have used 1 color for the background and made the background wider so the repetative thing isn't so big.

EDIT: yes, normal old one would be best.

You just CAN'T use a season like logo for a site that's meant for people all around the world, for the simple fact that in the southern hemisphere it will always be the opposite season than in the northen hemisphere. The corrent logo is still kinda neutral, but dont forget about what i just said if you ever think of changing it again :P. I'd prefer the good old background for it (not the xmas one of course :P)

I'm not asking you to say it's nice.. Simply to express your opinion in a way which doesn't send a "your image is ugly" message to it's author.

the xmas one is fine, every site changes their logos for xmas :P. As i said previously, even if it's usually sunny for xmas here, we all assoiciate it with snow (even if it never snows here :P). But it's a whole different thing if you're gonna change it for summer too :P

There is nothing wrong with saying that I think it stinks. If I think something is bad I say I think it is bad, if something is good it is good. That doesn't mean I think Eljay sucks, it means that I think this particular design of his is ugly, period.

I think it looks rather sexeh, it doesnt need to be changed each season as it covers spring - summer, not so much autumn but we'll live =p the only time we need to change it is christmas time.
Although the clouds do look like bites from a catapilla =p

err, anywho, I think the current one(Eljay's) looks quite good for any season(except winter). Because it looks just like a nice happy banner, we are only associating the banner with spring because we know that's what it's supposed to be.

But yes, why not just default/old one we had before xmas?

EDIT: My only problem with it, is that it isn't exactly forum colours - it's a lot lighter than most of the colours used in the forum theme and msgpluslive.net.

Actually, i do see where you are comming from there.. As in, the site having a different banner to the support forum is a bit untidy..

if you don't like it, Change it to one of the others.
I hope that none of the admin's change it because there is nothing wrong with it, if anything, better than the original.
