Win Media Center Edition 2005 vs XP Pro SP2 by alegator on 03-22-2007 at 11:42 AM

I'm planning on purchasing a PC with Windows Media Center 2005. I always used (and use) XP Pro SP2. I'm concerned about the following:
- Is WinMCE as secure as XP Pro?
- Is the SP2 patch applicable only to XP or also to MCE?
- Are aplications compatible with XP also compatible with MCE?
- Is MCE as stable as XP?
- What features does MCE lack compared to XP?
Thanks.

MCE _is_ XP Pro, quite literally. However, you can't use media center extenders while joined to a domain, as they require Fast User Switching.

XP MCE is just like XP Pro but has Media Center. In fact I'm on XP MCE SP2 atm. All programs are fully compatible as on XP Pro.

Yeah same here I have XP MCE and it works exactally like XP with the addition of media center additions such as built in audio converter and the media center console.

OK friends, that's good to know! Then I can install all my XP Pro applications safely on MCE.
