utorrent/portforwarding help by steVenB on 03-29-2007 at 05:11 AM

Hey, Im looking for some help here. I followed the instructions for my router from portforward.com and set up a static ip BUT when I go to test the port in utorrent. I get the following message.

Welcome to the µTorrent Port Checker.
A test will be performed on your computer to check if the specified port is opened.

Checking port 32459 on (external ip number)

Error! Port 32459 does not appear to be open.

Any ideas?
Thanks

try a different port number to something a little more standard. Some ISP's will block certain ports or port ranges on their end. Try port 8080, an alternative port for http.
I'm not really sure if this will mess anything up for you if you browse any web site using port 8080 while you are using uTorrent, but I doubt it.

and you're sure that you forwarded port 32459 for your PC on the LAN?

run ipconfig in command prompt to check your LAN ip and then check the port forwarded settings again to make sure it's forwarded to the right ip.

Sorry, Im a newb when if comes to computers. Would the LAN be the same as my IPv4 address? If so then that is the ip in which the port is forwarded.

also:  think that utorrent port checker lies, cos it says my ports aren't open yet i still manage to get 600kb/s +

I hardly get over 70kb/s...Im usually around 20-40kb/s. I always have the red or yellow flag on uTorrent.

Not being connectable doesn't guarantee that you won't get 1 MiB/s if there is a good swarm. If you get too many people unconnectable in the swarm however, then it becomes a shit swarm (twice as many unconnectable is more than twice as shit), so being unconnectable is evil.
