Badly Needing Help =[ by EBFL on 04-03-2007 at 04:36 PM

I am unable to open anything as all proggrams have changed to a .lnk and thats not just on the desktop, its also on my quick launch and start menu.
I have tried going into safe mode and system restoring from there as i can't system restore in normal mode and i tried it to a week back as it only happened yesterday.
And when i turn my computer on, before the log on screen a big box comes up with two little boxes in like this: [][].

Have you tried restoring it back from within two days?
Have you done anything recently related to the problem? Installed/changed anything ect..?

Only song albums

Can't see that they'd cause any problems.

Try booting up in safe mode and then scanning for viruses and spyware.(make sure to update your anti-virus software first.)

RE: Badly Needed Help =[ by xJ + on 04-03-2007 at 05:34 PM

try deleting the entire file/folder via command prompt [NOT the safe mode command prompt].
The command:
del [location of you file/folder]

Example:
deleting a file:
del C:\users\test\delete\file.jpg
OR
del "C:\documents and settings\test user 123\file.jpg"
deleting an entire folder:
del C:\users\test\delete\*
OR
del "C:\documents and settings\test user 123\*"

restart your pc thereafter
hope it'll help

Problem with Command prompt:
Windows Cannot open this file:
File: cmd.exe

Then i clicked: Use the web service to find the appropriate program and on Microsoft site it says this:
File Type: Unknown
Description: Windows does not recognize this file type.
EDIT: xJ + has been trying to help me and Command Prompt will not open either by run or by start menu

Did those albums you donwloaded came as compressed files which you needed to unpack or did they unpack themselfs?

Do you have "hide known file extensions" disabled in your Windows Explorer (<= most biggest cause of virus installations since you do not see what you run; you might think you double click on an album, excel file or whatever, but in reality you start up an exe instead).

In any of you folder, click tools on the menu bar > Folder Options > View. Under advanced settings, there will be an option call hide extension for known file types, just uncheck it and click OK.
that's if Cookie was refering to hide extension for known file type instead of hide known file extension.

Well, if you can see the extensions on files then it's clearly not on. Just look at a file
