Do you guys know of a safe trusted program that could just convert my avi to an iso so i can burn it on a dvd? i have the dvd program, but i just need a safe avi>iso

I've used ImgBurn many times, it's a very useful tool.

Why dont you convert it to a DVD File then burn to a DVD, i did this recently, here is the thread i made about it...
