Informing users about hidden (secret) features by ahmetgns on 04-09-2007 at 03:07 PM

After the option "Enhance text copied to clipboard (add emoticons codes)" has overwritten the option "Enable quickly access to previously sent messages with Ctrl+Up and Ctrl+Down", the latter option has become a hidden feature. So new Plus! users may never learn that feature and to open previously sent messages window, they will feel themselves to have to go to Plus! icon menu on the conversation windows. Maybe even I don't know such hidden features. So my suggestion is putting info sentences to suitable places on Preferences panel for such secret features. An example is on the attachment.

Well although there is no more reference to this feature in the preferences, the previous messages feature isn't exactly a hidden feature.
You can access it via the Messenger Plus! icon in the conversation window:

But I must say that I like the idea of having some hints to other not so well documented features in the preferences window. There is AFAIK no way a user can find out that Ctrl+Up shows the Previous Messages window because it's mentioned nowhere. The only problem is that the preferences windows are already pretty filled up.

This is where a helpfile can come in... something I always would have liked to see included :D

Maybe even just a help page... with a list of commands.

Personally I know about the CTRL+Up because it used to be in the preferences.

I have just noticed that, in old Plus! there was a text in preferences which informs people about this feature. Also in my opinion a help file won't contribute Plus! much thing. (also it would be bad to have help file only in English, or in the other way translating it causes much more work for translators and also if translated incorrectly will it cause very much problem for normal Plus! users.

???

A good helpfile would help a hell of a lot.

So you say that all the thousands of help files, which explain features and how to use them, etc,  from other programs are useless too?

Actually I can't find really good things to be written in that help file of Plus!. Everything in Plus! seems to be understandable. I think Plus! don't have too many, maybe any help-required options compared to other programs. Also any help which people would need can be found on website or in the forum. But since you think it would be good, I am sure you have many experiences that lead you to want a help file.

I smell a hypocrite!

Help files, decent graphics, decent layout F.T.W

I was really impressed with the Wacom Interactive tutorial to teach you how to use your new wacom pen I always find it hard to explain why someone should install plus now an online animation/interactive example of features would be really handy!

i can imagine www.msgpluslive.net/why/ being a quicktext :P
