Start > Set Program Access and Defaults > Custom > Choose A Default Media Player > Choose WMP? :p

the set program access and defaults may be in Control Panel too, yeah, so if you dont have a shortcut to it on thestart menu
Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > and on the left side panel there's 4 choices, choose the last one! :D

I hope that's what you were looking for

you could also do this by right clicking a media file go open with, then click on choose default program then click on WMP and tick the box that says always use the selected program with this kind of file. that should do it and if another media format still opens with VLC just do the same with that. i hope this helps:)

You don't need to set WMP as default player for each media type manually by hand.

You can do it in one go by opening WMP and navigating to its options:
Tools > Options > Filetypes tab > Select All > Apply

PS: if some are ticked but the files of that type don't seem to open with WMP, then first unselect everything and click 'apply', then select everything again and click 'apply' again.
