In continuing with the tradition of the previous two years, I've made a GCSE thread to discuss the stress that will be loaded onto your shoulders for the next few weeks RE: GCSEs 2007 by vaccination on 05-11-2007 at 07:27 PM
Hmm, well I have mocks starting Monday; and a few GCSE's in there as well. RE: GCSEs 2007 by EBFL on 05-11-2007 at 08:00 PM
Well, since im in year 9.. so i have choose our options, and as there are only 3 options, i picked, RE: GCSEs 2007 by joey on 05-11-2007 at 08:10 PM

GCSEs RE: GCSEs 2007 by aNILEator on 05-11-2007 at 10:10 PM
Lol looking back, you only need 3 A-C GCSE's and you're into college doing a diploma then off to uni for a degree. RE: GCSEs 2007 by M73A on 05-11-2007 at 10:30 PM
quote:WISH ID DONE THAT.. hate the crap my sixth forms tryna force us into, argh! not even going into it.. hate the place nowadays. gcses are easy compared to a-level RE: GCSEs 2007 by aNILEator on 05-12-2007 at 04:25 AM you can always join after A-Level...... or flunk out now and apply for sept start RE: GCSEs 2007 by Eljay on 05-12-2007 at 07:44 AM
quote: Couldn't agree more, it's the same as doing 3/4 A levels and you only have to study ONE subject. Not to mention exams absolutely suck and cause way too much stress. Assignments > exams. * Eljay bigs up college some more! RE: GCSEs 2007 by absorbation on 05-12-2007 at 12:27 PM
The only reason I am not going to college or doing an apprenticeship is because I have no idea what I want to do yet RE: GCSEs 2007 by Vimto on 05-12-2007 at 12:34 PM
These are subjects I have to do for GCSE there like split into modules, already done some of them. RE: GCSEs 2007 by saralk on 05-12-2007 at 01:10 PM
I'm doing A-Levels, then i'm off to uni. RE: GCSEs 2007 by aNILEator on 05-12-2007 at 05:02 PM
diploma's are more targeted, hence for some like me it's great, also you're more free and respected (well depends on teachers and college i suppose) but you're not going to be treated like little mike still by your teachers at school if you stay in sixth form RE: GCSEs 2007 by absorbation on 05-12-2007 at 05:05 PM
Is anyone actually doing their exams this year? I've noticed there were loads the past two years RE: GCSEs 2007 by Knucks on 05-12-2007 at 05:29 PM

I know Media is on Monday. My first exams start next Tuesday with English Lit and ICT RE: GCSEs 2007 by the andyman on 05-14-2007 at 05:11 PM
quote:Same, although there's then about 12 days till my next one. Study leave starts just before lunch this Thursday ![]() I'm taking English Literature (AQA) English Language (AQA) Maths (OCR) Science ["Double award" incorporating Biology, Chemistry and Physics] (AQA) French (Edexcel, already done the orals) History (Edexcel) Design & Technology: Systems & Control [aka electronics] (Edexcel) ICT (Edexcel, it's a GNVQ [worth 4 GCSEs] and I've already done both the exams involved) Next year I'm thinking of staying on at sixth form and doing Maths, Chemistry, Physics and ICT (which unfortunately is an applied subject which is seen as an easy thing and not as good as Computing which they always used to do) RE: GCSEs 2007 by nightwolf07 on 05-14-2007 at 06:39 PM
Luckily I've already done my gcses RE: GCSEs 2007 by Spunky on 05-15-2007 at 02:46 PM
I did my GCSEs a couple of years ago now and I've got to say, I prefer exams to assignments... I did absoloubtly nothing towards my geography coursework and still managed to pull it up to a C grade on the exams alone. RE: GCSEs 2007 by hmaster on 05-15-2007 at 03:06 PM
quote:Same here although I do a diploma for I.T so its just 2 big projects. And my study leave starts the same as you andyman but I have an exam the next day so no point really ![]() RE: GCSEs 2007 by absorbation on 05-16-2007 at 01:28 PM
I've now got study leave RE: GCSEs 2007 by absorbation on 06-06-2007 at 03:55 PM
How is it going guys? RE: GCSEs 2007 by stoshrocket on 06-06-2007 at 06:57 PM Bah, I remember those GCSE's last year... Everyone came out of Science last year (AQA) saying that it was horrible, and everyone I know doing them now said the exact same thing, don't worry about them! As for me, I'm doing A-levels, and tbh, I don't see what the big hike is about them, they're the same step up from GCSE as going from KS3 was to GCSE: sure there is more work but atleast you are doing the work for subjects you enjoy? I know I sure am, I personally love A-level Maths, Physics and Design Technology. English is pretty dodgy but bah, that's gonna go next year. Anyway, I wish everyone luck in their exams to come, and lets hope results day is a happy one, mine certainly was! RE: GCSEs 2007 by vaccination on 06-06-2007 at 10:46 PM
I had a Biology GCSE today, it was easy RE: GCSEs 2007 by absorbation on 06-07-2007 at 09:10 AM
quote: What board? Edexcel was easy, but it tested you more on facts rather than scientific knowledge. It was as if they ran out of questions. In our latest modules we got asked the same question twice for physics (What is a fundamental particle?). There are two answers to the question, but it seemed odd they asked it twice ![]() RE: GCSEs 2007 by vaccination on 06-07-2007 at 03:08 PM

quote:I totally agree with him... Last year was like that too when I was doing my GCSE's, I hated what we were doing, yet I had to take it at A-level because I want to do architecture and it seemed a better subject to take in respect most universities shine on both physics and design subjects when going into architecture. Now, in A-level, I love physics, it's a beautiful subject and we're finally learning real physics, scratching away at the massive iceberg that is the 'why?’ Yet I never would’ve known about this 'side' of physics because of GCSE physics, and given the choice back then, when i was doing my GCSE's, I would've dropped physics in a heartbeat. I'm taking RE: GCSEs 2007 by absorbation on 06-08-2007 at 03:14 PM
Edexcel physics is very different I find, although they have changed the specification for next year, and I did find the modules 5-6 paper was asking less Physics based questions e.g. How did man X communicate his findings in 1700's? RE: GCSEs 2007 by hmaster on 06-08-2007 at 03:54 PM
I do OCR History, wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Pretty straight forward but the majority of the specification didn't even come up. Paper 2 next week RE: GCSEs 2007 by Eddie on 06-08-2007 at 04:08 PM
Eek lots of Exams there compared to my Year 11 Half Yearly exams :/ only have 4 haha, Discrete Mathematics, Computer Science, Physical Education Studies and Geography. Education system here isnt da best in da world RE: GCSEs 2007 by absorbation on 06-08-2007 at 05:10 PM
I think our system has some of the most exams. We take them at a number of 'Key Stages' remember. We are publicly tested from the age of 6 RE: GCSEs 2007 by absorbation on 08-23-2007 at 06:30 AM

quote:WTF ? any 6th form/college would be mad not to accept you with them results. interviews are normally for the lower grades, you must go to someweird school RE: GCSEs 2007 by the andyman on 08-24-2007 at 10:47 AM
quote:They interview everyone to make it "fair" I presume and in case you don't choose ones they think you should do or choose ones that you have no hope at doing well at and also to see if you have any career ideas for after sixth form and to make sure you do the right subjects for it if you do. I think its also meant to introduce people to the idea of uni interviews even though the "interview" I just had was pretty much just "well done, that's all ok, see you in september" spread over 1-2 minutes RE: GCSEs 2007 by user35870 on 08-24-2007 at 04:31 PM Congratulations All! Maths is almost done, 3 tests down (A, A and A*) and 3 courseworks (same grades). Just one more test to do next year. PE, 2 out of 4 (i think) courseworks done got A* in those two. Havent done the tests yet. Geography part of my humanities test I got a C :\ Geography sucks anyway ![]() RE: GCSEs 2007 by absorbation on 09-04-2007 at 08:51 PM
Well done Vimto, your off to a great start, but I've got to tell you the only brake you get next year is Christmas RE: GCSEs 2007 by toddy on 09-04-2007 at 09:03 PM
quote:so many schools take the easier route now. much harder to get a good grade, if you have two exams (cal & non-cal) for the whole subject as you've gotta remember/know the whole gcse criteria. not just 1/2 modules at a time. p.s. yes i'm bitter, as i'm sure doing the modules way i would have got an A*. rather then the A (3 marks off an A*) i got from doing the proper full length exams. RE: GCSEs 2007 by absorbation on 09-04-2007 at 09:06 PM Without modules the course would be a hell of a lot less detailed. I learnt so much more during module revision rather than terminal paper revision. RE: GCSEs 2007 by toddy on 09-04-2007 at 09:07 PM
quote:no its not, same modules. just you have to remember them all when it comes to the exam. rather then break it down RE: GCSEs 2007 by Tasha on 09-04-2007 at 09:21 PM
quote: I agree... We have to do just two exams, and well, it would be a LOT easier if you did it in modules, because it's a lot less to revise and remember for exams. Anyway, yeah, going into year 11 tomorrow. And I am taakkiinnggg: Maths Science - Biology, Physics, Chemistry English - English and English Literature R.E Full Course Geography History Spanish Graphics Already done an exam for R.E and some for all the Science's, but I don't know all the results yet. RE: GCSEs 2007 by absorbation on 09-04-2007 at 09:33 PM
Modules is easier to revise, but I ended up revising a lot more for Science. As a result I learnt more RE: GCSEs 2007 by vaccination on 09-05-2007 at 06:45 AM
quote:That's what I gotta do. We have 8 sets for maths in my year at school, sets 1-3 do it that way, sets 3-8 do it vimto's way. (set 1 = highest btw. I'm in set 3) RE: GCSEs 2007 by saralk on 09-05-2007 at 09:13 AM
quote: I bet you didn't, you remembered more, but I bet you'll forget it pretty quickly. RE: GCSEs 2007 by hmaster on 09-05-2007 at 11:25 AM
quote:Yup your right thats exactly what I did, crammed it in but forgot as soon as the exam was over ![]() RE: GCSEs 2007 by absorbation on 09-05-2007 at 11:39 AM
I think I know more about my Sciences than any other subject, although I'm not going to remember every little detail. Linear Geography is a complete blur, I guess I only revised it a little (because I could get away with it) and as a result I know very little about it RE: RE: GCSEs 2007 by Vimto on 09-05-2007 at 08:23 PM
quote: Thanks ![]() Got my first PE GCSE back today, a B :\ But considering I didnt turn up to the practical exam thingy, did pretty well. Also got my history mark (which is 20% of humanities) = A ![]() Happy today =] |
