Not sure about other people, but I'd definitely find it useful if the arrival of new emails was shown in the event log/event viewer.

Also perhaps an option to filter the events that actually display in the event viewer, similar to the contact filter that already exists?

Thanks :)

Both stuff already happens and is possible, provided you have the latest Plus! Live version.

Go to your Event Viewer and click the Options menu, there you can select the kind of events which should be shown (granted you can't select individual events like signins, status changes, etc... but if you want to track something like that you could also always click the "Event Description" column header to sort on it).

POP3 notifications are also listed in the Event Viewer, as long as you configured a POP3 account to be checked of course.

;)

That's fair enough (didn't know about that), but what about Hotmail/Live Mail notifications, that don't need POP3?

Note about the search field of the event viewer. You can add the following character before your search to target a specific field to filter only:
+   Email
-   Time
*   Name
/   Description
