How is the functionality of Messenger Plus! Live with this new beta?

RE: Official Windows Live Messenger 8.5 Beta - Released! by CookieRevised on 05-30-2007 at 10:48 PM

Messenger Plus! Live is not yet compatible with this new build!

Copy that file into Program Files/Windows Live/Messenger

Wait for update from Patchou ;o.

RE: Official Windows Live Messenger 8.5 Beta - Released! by Patchou on 05-30-2007 at 11:28 PM

Do not, I repeat, do NOT do this trick to make the current version of Plus! work with Messenger 8.5 (or at least, don't publicize it). I'm already working on a quick fix for this new beta, you'll get it faster than you think.

(after all, what's the point of having Plus! in the new Messenger if the quick icons panel does not even display the bunny? I bet you didn't think of that)

Rename your current MSN Messenger folder to something else, then install Windows Live Messenger 8.5 :)

RE: Official Windows Live Messenger 8.5 Beta - Released! by mfragola on 05-31-2007 at 01:44 AM

I have it, downloaded straight from ideas.live.com

It installs perfectly under Windows Vista x64, however there's something that makes it crash when I try to open any sharing folders window..

I'm still trying to figure out what it might be..
It could be either Plus! or the A Patch..

There was no necessary invitation code, you just had to click the "Apply" link next to the beta on the Available Connections page to take a survey.
RE: Official Windows Live Messenger 8.5 Beta - Released! by matty on 05-31-2007 at 04:56 AM

Odd I don't see it, oh well I don't have the time and I don't care, they stripped me of my butterfly status and it was their own fault so.

RE: Official Windows Live Messenger 8.5 Beta - Released! by rob_botch on 05-31-2007 at 09:22 AM

I got accepted too! I'm not sure what the difference between the public and the Connect beta testing services are though, bar a few questionnaires. Even the download link on Connect was a link to the public one.

RE: Official Windows Live Messenger 8.5 Beta - Released! by FATEx on 05-31-2007 at 09:49 AM

Dear all,

WLM 8.5 Beta doesn't require invitations or approval for usage of the program by Microsoft.

It can be accessible by public already.

I myself have tested out 8.5. Indeed the improved interface are an eye opener, but without Plus, it really looked weird and even, uncomfortable using it. I'm going back to 8.1, the last released version.

I will be back at 8.5 once PlusLive is made compatible with 8.5 BETA

RE: Official Windows Live Messenger 8.5 Beta - Released! by Zahid™ on 05-31-2007 at 09:58 AM

I got accepted.

People that were rejected: Apparently they rejected masses of people because 8.5 "isn't available in certain markets yet" :(.

then you would be the only one who has a magic Plus! version ;) The fact remains that many options and features in the latest Plus! version will not work properly with this new Windows Live Messenger beta.

Yes, some function may work, but certainly not all.

Anyways, a new compatible version of Plus! Live is in the making and will be released very very soon

RE: Official Windows Live Messenger 8.5 Beta - Released! by esnupe on 05-31-2007 at 02:25 PM

After installing beta 8.5 I re-installed PLUS! and it reverted WLM to the previous version. This is odd!!! I can appreciate the fact that it's not yet compatible and I'll wait for the patch, but to automatically revert to the previous release of WLM is uncanny, anyone experiencing the same problem?
Thanks

RE: Official Windows Live Messenger 8.5 Beta - Released! by mummycool1 on 05-31-2007 at 02:41 PM

Oooh how exciting :P I am however going to be very patient 8-) and wait for both the official wlm 8.5 release as I've only just got it working properly again after loads of problems,  and the plus to go with, as I cannot give up my tabbed chats or my personal status's.
Anyone got any idea of dates of releases yet for both???

That's most likely because the old version of Windows Live Messenger (8.1) is still installed in C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\ therfore Messenger Plus! Live is still detecting WLM 8.1, as the new WLM 8.5 is now installed in C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger so Messenger Plus! doesn't find it.
RE: Official Windows Live Messenger 8.5 Beta - Released! by RamGuy on 05-31-2007 at 02:59 PM

Could some one please give me an alternative download link, or upload the United Kingdom version of Windows Live Messenger 8.5 BETA?

When I download using FireFox from the official links, I get a corrupted installation file it seems.. After clicking "Accept", nothing more happens.. It wont install.. And that's odd, since I've installed the Spanish leaked version a few days ago.. And that work without any problems..
Another odd thing was that the download took me just 1sec..

So it seems like my FireFox v2.0.0.4 got some issues downloading it..
When I start the download in FlashGet or Internet Explorer, it takes approximately 10-14hours before it's finished..

So could any one please give me an alternative link (if there are any)
Or upload it for me somewhere, so I can download it? Please

RamGuy:

I believe your downloads are not corrupted, try this:

Liveside.net - Windows Live Installer Problems?

This should solve your problems. :)

If not: Install_WLMessenger.exe (18,0 MB; English/UK)

Seems as my Messmerise Beta tool will be delayed seen as i have to update the code to support WLM 8.5.. Grr :P 8-)

There was a BAD way of making plus! 4.21 work with 8.5 that would cause problems in future releases (I think) so Patchou is going to release soon I believe msg plus! 4.22 which will be compatible without doing something stupid. I heard by the end of the weekend from somewhere but I'm not sure where. It could come out by the end of the weekend it could come out next weekend. I guess we will play the waiting game (AKA Hungry Hungry Hippos).

It means that Plus! will NOT work decently with this new WLM 8.5 version, even if people claim they "have no problems". Because those people most likely didn't tested Plus! properly, otherwise they too would see that Plus! is currently not entirly compatiable with WLM 8.5...

As for the release of a compatible version: extremely soon... as in any day now...
