Results of the 1st Contest Week by Patchou on 06-03-2007 at 12:00 AM

Heya,

the first week of the 6th Anniversary Contest is now over. Yes, it also means that the second week begins at this very moment with 48 shinny new prizes to find on a brand new game grid! These first 7 days proved to be very successful with over 37 million clicks made on the contest grid by more than 850 thousand different MSN users. Messenger Plus! is popular or what? ;)

I received many requests for statistics so I decided to post some of the most pertinent numbers. I’m also publishing a heat map generated with all the clicks made during the week which I find quite interesting. For those wondering about the long diagonal line, it’s the result of the simulated clicks made by some of the not-so-bright cheaters. Some people tried more advanced techniques but all failed. Once again, yes you can cheat but no you won’t receive any prize as a result so don’t bother. For starters, the individual click map of each winner is manually generated/checked and most of the time, that’s all it takes to disqualify cheaters :-).

Individual clicks: 37,622,098
Individual players: 865,478
Average clicks made by each player: 43

Average clicks made by winners: 665
Lowest amount of clicks made by a winner: 5
Highest amount of clicks made by a winner: 2,913

Lowest amount of clicks on a particular point: 6
Highest amount of clicks on a particular point: 45,371

[Image: Heatmap_Week1_small.png] Heat map of every click. X marks the shirts, O marks the big prizes.

And finally, the list of this week’s winners can be found at msgpluslive.net. As announced a couple of days ago, more people than intended won an Xbox 360 Elite but don’t worry, 2 more will still be added in the grid before the end of the contest :-). Also, if the winner of an important prize fails to reply to emails sent to him/her within a week, his/her prize will be put back in the contest before the end of the event.

Have fun :)
Patchou

RE: Results of the 1st Contest Week by Thor on 06-03-2007 at 12:33 AM

I never thought so many people would try to click the middle of the shutdown! :D

RE: Results of the 1st Contest Week by NanaFreak on 06-03-2007 at 01:37 AM

nice stats =p

im still not going to play again... too addictive and too little prizes ;o

RE: Results of the 1st Contest Week by Chrono on 06-03-2007 at 01:57 AM

lol i find the heatmap pretty funny. The clicks concentrate where the prizes are shown. You can even notice the tshirt at the bottom left, with the plus! logo on it

That heat map and stats are great, they're like my prize for spending so many hours clicking for he comp.  It's a shame that we are al so uniform and click the same area.... makes it very hard when the coordinates are randomly generated.

RE: Results of the 1st Contest Week by user44571 on 06-03-2007 at 02:31 AM

* user44571 saves the heat map and goes back in time.

You should use that info for your next clicks: click in places that do not have any particular mark or visible symbols, your chances to win will probably dramatically increase this way (still, I have to remind of of you that it's primarily a question of luck).
RE: Results of the 1st Contest Week by warmth on 06-03-2007 at 03:01 AM

You right patchou... All is LUCK!!!

[OFF TOPIC]
Patchou can you contact me please??? I have something very important to me to ask you...

wow.. :O

[offtopic]
btw patchou, what are those colors for those message boxes represent? (example, orange = prizes could be somewhere near, blue = prizes could be somewhere further apart from here, grey = prizes aren't anywhere near here, etc.)

those colors are random, just as the texts which say "maybe next time you win a PS3", etc... they don't mean a thing
RE: Results of the 1st Contest Week by robochief on 06-03-2007 at 05:51 AM

The change of the color in the "try again" window, could be random. Just aesthetic.

Or maybe, it could be to fool cheaters, that rely on macro program that can detect a change in the window. Different colors = harder to make an automatic method?

I think it's all just for aesthetics, any cheaters which are fooled on the side is just an extra plus :p
RE: Results of the 1st Contest Week by Rolando on 06-03-2007 at 06:11 AM

you can click the same coordinate once, and you'll get a different color. (most probably)

Also if he doesn't know how the competition works, who would?

Come one people, at least read whom you are replying to :(
Those messages on the try again screen are random

considering i don't HAVE an rss feed reader and only found out about this because of the popup on my MSN...

if you forget about previous years, why am I only alerted to it now in the SECOND week of the contest via a popup??  why wasn't I alerted to it at teh START of the contest???

not saying it is...but at little myffed that not only had I not known about this since i first started using MSN Plus, but I'm only alerted to the fact of it's current existence through a popup on my MSN in the SECOND week of the competition.....why not the first???

Chrono, you are wrong here. That T-shirt on the bottom left wasn't much clicked therefore the color is dark blue, and like other places which are clicked a few times. But note that, the candle, pins 1 and 2, nunchuch kontrol and logo in the t-shirt are more clicked than the T-shirt. Interesting though, people prefered to click more around that black T-shirt and make T-shirt can be noticed on the heatmap by a converse logic.

Did you notice the 4 corners are hottest places?

Plus! checks for updates once a week or so.. If you sign in quite regularly, it would tell you sooner rather than later.

Also, http://www.google.com/reader/view/
You don't need to download anything.. :P

RE: Results of the 1st Contest Week by joey on 06-03-2007 at 08:27 AM

well seeing as there were 37,622,098 clicks, and only 536,996 pixels, even at random the chance of some pixels not being hit are small.

RE: Results of the 1st Contest Week by Matti on 06-03-2007 at 08:53 AM

Err, isn't it strange that there's a diagonal line striking from top to bottom? BAN DA CHEATERS! :D

Nice heat map, let's hope this week brings me a prize. :)

it also means that some people clicked on the pic while there were no prizes left :P otherwise the minimum would be 1

RE: Results of the 1st Contest Week by Melkor on 06-04-2007 at 07:14 PM

Hi,

I want to ask, if its possible, to see his own heatmap? ^^
Im interested in how i clicked. ;)
so higgledy-piggledy xD

ok, thank you for you'r answer.
im going to click some more ^^
*yes, im a freak*

MFG, Melkor

RE: Results of the 1st Contest Week by ahmetgns on 06-04-2007 at 07:23 PM

Indeed, it would be very interesting to see our individual heatmaps. Maybe for 7th Anniversary Contest it will be possible. :P (As if every year we have to play the same game)

Off or ontopic, you name it: Number of prizes has just increased to 35 from 32. what is happening? Is this result of another glitch? Or are such things being done intentionally?

RE: Results of the 1st Contest Week by Melkor on 06-04-2007 at 07:44 PM

And another question:
were there NO coordinates with under 6 clicks?

RE: Results of the 1st Contest Week by Patchou on 06-04-2007 at 09:23 PM

At the end of the contes I'll probably give all of you the possibility to see your own click map, but not before the end (as it could overload the server)

And yes, there was no point clicked less than 6 times last week.

RE: Results of the 1st Contest Week by daggerer on 06-05-2007 at 12:29 AM

I also got this message when i clicked on one, is this some sort of glitch.

happens when the server is to busy, or you've lost internet connection

if it was a winning click, then patchou will contact you by your msn email address to let you know

Remember the prizes could have been locked when people clicked on them.
