Today I downloaded windows live messenger and the installation went through and everything but wen i went to the installation wizard it said this version of windows live requires a newer version of windows.... i have no clue what to do because i wen i went to see the system requirements on the windows live page it said that windows XP could work with it...

Do you have Windows XP SP2?
It won't work on SP1 anymore, see Inside Windows Live Messenger - Messenger 8.5 Beta1 released.
