Same things here around our rural areas (local lakes and rivers e.g). The lake that i pass on my way to school has a river running around it (The river Lyd) and then a recreation ground (mostly where the sports teams all play, all flat grassland). The whole thing turned into a sort of beach-type area. It even covered the best of a 6' tall bridge. :|

Lots of drains are blocked up around Doncaster which has been causing flooding problems all day.  I had to drop my car off at the garage this morning which would usually be around a 20 minute round trip.  It actually took an hour due to the conditions.  I think my uni house has flooded too, but since I've just left and wont be living there next semester, I'm not too concerned. :chrongue:

It's turning out to be a great summer so far. :gfdrin:

If we get floods here we're fucked. :zippy:

Flood warning everywhere today. But we have seen little rain here, compared to last week :p.

RE: So, the rain is still coming..! by Mike on 06-25-2007 at 09:54 PM

It's hot here :P
31°C at 00:52 (outside of course).

Silly question, but why does it hardly ever flood in Scotland? :) I mean, okay I live near the sea and it just runs off, but I'm in Oban atm (and yeah it's near the sea too) and even with all the valleys and that none are anywhere near flooded.

And actually, for supposedly being the wet and miserable part of Britain it's not rained here for a few days...

And yet surprisingly there is a ring of sunshine around Wimbledon 8-) Haha, it's been raning pretty heavily hear in Manchester but not real 'flooding' tbh. I quite like heavy rain though so I wouldn't mind if it carried on

Good question :P maybe our definitions of flooding differ, what the English call a flood you call a puddle :P

Same here, if not hotter (#).

We got flash thunderstorms here last month for like a week. They were pretty hard too, but then, city people less less weather. :P

Good luck being in the storm and missing school (my 'academic' school ends tomorrow)

Wasn't the UK in a heatwave this time last year?

Oh how I love how our Australian winters have better weather than summer over there...

something to do with the way the water flows, its been like that for thousands of years and the areas around have changed and adapted to the natural flow of the water, so it only usually goes through certain areas. also im assuming its quite grassy noe? if so then a lot of water gets absorbed there too.

im usually wrong though

I was in a sort of drought until recently. I love rain... unless it becomes some sort of a threat or a danger.

Some of those are quite funny pictures, but shame about the weather though.

After watching the news today, much of the problems have been caused by building companies trying to buy cheap land and sell cheaper houses by building on flood plains. Knowing this, it sort of pisses me off people are blaming it climate change.

It's flooded there before. That's why they're called "flood" plains. Not because sea levels are rising.

Of course, I still feel for the people who bought the houses not knowing this. And the ones who were unlucky enough to get flooded and not be living on flood plains.

Lol, try living in the Netherlands. Half of the country is below sea level and artificially kept dry.

Some people we know had a house that was flooded because their house was sort of lower than then the rest of the street.

Their insurance now costs loads and their house is basically unsellable, they've turned the whole bottom floor into a massive garage and built an extra floor in order to make increase the house's value.
RE: So, the rain is still coming..! by joey on 06-27-2007 at 06:56 PM

well, whatever works! :P we live on the top of a massive hill so we're usually ok for flooding. and they just unblocked most of the drains too =p its stopped raining now pretty much so all the flood water will be going away now.
