Okay...I've installed Vista Home Basic, had a slight problem with my sound card but that's fixed, but I can't install WLM. It gives a 1652 error and tells me to go to http://messenger.live.com to download the latest version of WLM, which is where I got it from! WTF!
Any help appreciated.

The new Windows Live Messenger 8.5 Beta is made to work with Vista better than previous versions. You can download it at:

You can turn UAC off in Control Panel -> (Classic View) -> User Accounts

Exactly. Just says "filesystem error". I'm back on XP cause UAC didn't let me turn it off...
Perhaps it had something to do with me downloading it from a torrent?Meh.
