Problem when clicking on the 'mail' button in WLM by Dave on 07-04-2007 at 06:42 PM

I recently got a new pc, and when I clicked on the mail button at the top of the contact list page of WLM, it opened my Windows Live Hotmail (WLH) inbox in a new tab in my current internet explorer window, or if i didn't have one open, opened internet explorer in a maximised window.  However, after a couple of weeks, when i click on the button on the CL page, it opens my WLH inbox in a new window of IE, and this window is not maximised - takes up only about a third of the screen.  Has anyone got any idea about how i can change it back so that it opens in a new tab, and are other people having the same problem?  Is there some setting somewhere that I need to change?

Thanks.

Information:
IE version: 7.0.6
OS: Windows Vista
WLM version: 8.1.0178

Maybe it's crazy, but open an IE window, maximize it and close it.... When you open it again, it should open maximized!!! ;)

Edit: If you close it minimized, again you will have minimized windows opened... :)

Explanation: I remember when I had IE 6, that when I enlarged the window (without clicking on the button to maximize it), if I right clicked a link and say to open in a new window, it opened in a reduced size... So, maximizing it, all windows will open maximized... :)

That's what I thought should happen, but whatever state the window is in when I close it, when i open it again using the button in WLM, it always opens as a smaller window.  If i use the icon on the quick launch bar though, it opens maximised.  I don't get it...

Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet Options > General > Tab Settings > Open links from other programs

yeh, i've tried playing with those settings, restoring the defaults etc, but it still doesn't seem to help.  Am I the only person that this happens to?

So, I made a little test here.... I clicked the button and the window appeared enlarged (like maximized).. Then I made it little and close it... Next time a clicked the button, the window opened little as I have made it (and in the same position). So I enlarged again (I didn't use the maximize button in any time!!!) and close it, the window opened "big" again...
So you have to enlarge the window that opens when you click the mail button....

Note that if you maximize the "little" window opened with the button, next time you open it, it will be little again... ;)

ok, this is really weird.  I tried doing what you did changing the size of the window manually, but when I close it and reopen it, it still comes up in the original size and position.  However, I tried right-clicking on the start bar, and then going to cascade windows, and i found that by cascading, stacking etc, i can permanently change the size of the window when it opens.  what version of IE and what OS are you using?
