Router problem by LittleK on 07-10-2007 at 03:24 PM

Hi there. I bought a router yesterday (NetGear) and tried to set it up last night. I got quite far but the problem is, i have two LAN connections which both run at the same time. My modem name (Motorola USB ect) and then Realtek Ethernet ect. If i turn one off, the other doesnt work. Everything connects and all lights on router and modem show its set up correctly, but when it comes to connecting and it asks for my internets IP, i give it ONE of the LAN's IP's and it then tells me there is an IP conflict (as both LAN connections have different Ip's) HELP!

Any Ideas?

call your ISP and change the mac address, they are different (at least on cable)

Just in case you didn't think of it -- you definitely need to power-cycle (turn off for ~10 seconds, turn back on) the cable modem when you switch from USB to ethernet, or from a direct connection to your PC to router.
