ftp download manager by Supersonicdarky on 07-12-2007 at 01:32 AM

anyone know of a download manager that supports ftp (there are some large files that i need to download and my connection is known to be unstable). by download manager i mean something that will allow me to resume downloads from where they left off.

I suspect you have been downloading with your web browser.  That's your first mistake.  You don't need a "download manager", just a real FTP client (all of which support resume).  There's literally hundreds of those for Windows.

I am not going to make a specific recommendation -- just try some.  This is because I primarily use SFTP and have had to reject many popular and otherwise nice clients due to SFTP related issues (which don't apply if you are not using SFTP).

Another very useful utility you should be aware of is wget, a command line tool for tasks ranging from downloading a single large file to mirroring entire websites.  It supports FTP and supports resume when used with -c option.

If you are using 'normal ftp', you could try Filezilla

I'd recommend Free Download Manager:

Then why does Supersonicdarky asks for a download manager?

I find FlashGet very, very useful.

Supports FTP and allows torrenting only certain files that you want from a torrent :P

Doesn't Firefox already do that?

well... download managers resume alot better and firefox doesn't allow you to restart your pc etc. and start from where you were :P
