Custom Emoticon Problem by Omnituens on 07-13-2007 at 10:58 AM

I have posted before about how using the sound function of MsgPlus causes customs emoticons to be activated. It got to the point where everyone has all the stupid packs installed so most of the things they say are just pictures that make no sense.

heres the test i ran. Window remained open thoughtout.

Any pointers, for the sake of my sanity?

I remember the posts but I still cannot figure out how to reproduce the problem here. Once again, can anyone else do the test and tell me if they get the same issue?

I found the reg entry that controls it, and it changes as soon as i send the sound

Confirmed -- here is how to reproduce it:

1) Go to Options > Messages > and disable "Show custom emoticons"
2) Open a chat window with any contact
3) Send a custom emoticon (it will appear as text)
4) Send a Plus! sound
5) Send another custom emoticon (it will appear as an emoticon)

Note: A little bit of debugging shows that the emoticons are being re-enabled by Messenger itself.

finally!!!!! a way to reproduce the problem.

Thank you for verifying that the problem was localized in the "show custom emoticons" option. This has been partially fixed in bthe next version (the option will remain disabled in Messenger but custom emoticons will be enabled in the current chat until the window is closed). I can't do much more than that as this is a problem in Messenger itself.
