Getting in Bios Settings by lrac522 on 07-14-2007 at 10:37 PM

I have this stupid desktop that wont load my usb keyboard in order for me to hit the DEL key to get into Bios at startup. Is there anyway i could get into Bios to change my boot sequence? Thanks alot.  Hi all...:wave:

what does boot sequence have to do with a keyboard?

I need to change the boot sequence in order for it to run from CD. I need to reload windows.

now you are making sense.

it could be any of the F# keys (unless it says press <del> to go into bios)

if it is <del>, then try tapping it continuously at bootup just in case your timing wasnt  correct.

...you need to press buttons to do things during the boot sequence?

lrac522: you need a PS/2 keyboard. however, once you're in to the bios options, you should see something to the effect of "legacy USB support." enable this to let you use usb keyboards in the future.

2 options: get a ps2 keyboard, or switch the bios reset jumper

Woudn't be able to do any of your suggestions, reason, as I stated at first, both USB keyboard and mouse do not load until windows starts.

yes, but with most MoBo's, the checksum for the bios settings will be noticed to be different, and the config page opened by default.
I guess it won't help if your kb is still not working after that

OMG! Surprisingly this machine does not support ps2, it's one of those BIG UGLY jack with jumbo pins (from great nan days) and there is no keyboard for that. This machine is owned by a friend of mine. (don't want you to think it's mine):lol:

Yes the PCI USB card was installed after that BIG PIN keyboard was damaged in order to use a USB keyboard

you could always try unplugging the hard drive to get it to boot to the cd, then plugging it back in as soon as the CD starts.. note that that isn't recommended at all, and can damage your hard drive :p also, if you do it, make sure you use the data cable, not the power cable :p

RE: Getting in Bios Settings by lrac522 on 07-14-2007 at 11:48 PM

ok thanks

RE: Getting in Bios Settings by Verte on 07-15-2007 at 07:59 AM

Pretty sure you can get DIN - PS2 connectors. I bet you could do some crazy DIN - PS2 - USB chain.

Can't you install something like Acronis Boot Manager into the MBR of the Hard Drive? I'm sure that allows you to boot to the CD, from the HD bootup sequence.

Or, Ranish Partition Manager allows you to boot to a floppy disc, and I know you can use a floppy to boot to a CD rom :)

well, i've done that with my xbox and with my desktop, no harm done :P

I really really really would not recommend unplugging your HDD and plugging it back in when the CD starts! That's asking for malfunctions and damages.

As Verte said, just get a PS2/DIN converter plug:

Or USB/PS2 converter:
