Need opinions on new msgstuff.com by absorbation on 08-28-2007 at 10:21 PM

Hey guys, I need your big juicy brains here, I need your honest views on the new Messenger Stuff which I will be releasing very very soon.

http://beta.msgstuff.com

Give as much feedback as you can. If you can post a screenshot that would be fantastic. Don't hold back on your views, I want the truth on the design and features. Thanks :).

What's your resolution? :P
RE: Need opinions on new msgstuff.com by Menthix on 08-28-2007 at 11:23 PM

Dual 1280*1024, but that really isn't the point, learn to use a variable width like any self respecting site.

RE: Need opinions on new msgstuff.com by Matti on 08-29-2007 at 07:27 AM

Yummeh! Nice!!! :D
Maybe fix the titles in Animated Smilies/Downloads/..., they look a bit weird at the moment. Or are you still working on that?
Also, I don't know if I like the green bar at the homepage that way. I think you should make it 100% width, but then I wonder how to fix the navigation panel... What about making the bar a rounded rectangle?
And can you please not be that lazy to only use CSS for your top tabs? It'd look much nicer to have background images there! ;)

I like the new design ;o

it looks awesome... maybe add the old thing where you can minimize the side things...

anyways looks good ;o

RE: Need opinions on new msgstuff.com by absorbation on 08-29-2007 at 10:42 AM

I can't use a variable width for a variety of reasons. Some divs/ images need a fixed width. I'll try and come to some form of solution, but I use different stylesheets based on user's resolution.

Any screenshots would be extremely helpful for me to fix design issues :).

RE: Need opinions on new msgstuff.com by Nathan on 08-29-2007 at 11:03 AM

I tested it in 2560x1600 and its ok.
But IMHO it has WAY to much background :P

Please provide a screenshot. It'll be easier for him to modify it, and easier for us admins to yell at him for it ;-)

beta.msgstuff.com folder is empty here..

RE: Need opinions on new msgstuff.com by user35870 on 08-29-2007 at 03:47 PM

Yes, not sure what's happening there.

RE: Need opinions on new msgstuff.com by Nathan on 08-29-2007 at 04:55 PM

Same here.

RE: Need opinions on new msgstuff.com by Lou on 08-29-2007 at 04:57 PM

I don't think there's a need for everyone to confirm that the folder is empty. It's just empty, he's probably doing something to it. Give it some  time.

seems like there's no more beta page on the site? (I really like msgstuff so I'd like to see what'S changed).

The beta site has been pushed to the main site  - http://msgstuff.com

RE: Need opinions on new msgstuff.com by absorbation on 08-29-2007 at 10:20 PM

Goodness me, data is everywhere at the moment. Right, it's up, it's stage 1 and the design will be tweaked tomorrow (as long as the features and data has been moved over most of my stress has gone).

Those who think it's looking odd at the moment , leave a post with your suggestions and I hope to get them up by tomorrow.

As for the variable width, I will be using one come tomorrow.

It's been a year since the last release (263 days I think :P), but I expect a lot of problems will arise come tomorrow.

Wow that's pretty big, my 1680x1050 is pretty good with it (for a static width at least).  Personally I prefer dynamic backgrounds but meh, you get what you're given.

Looking good, except, erm, any news I post won't show :p.

That's because the admin panel isn't linked with the new database, there is a new admin panel to follow ;).

They don't know, but I added that months ago :P. There are a lot of changes Nathan, I've just been doing a lot of reading on how to monetize a website. I guess there are a lot more tools for that now.

I'm sorting out news posters tomorrow as well, if anyone is still interested in being one feel free to contact me :).

I'm thinking you're paying more attention to the feedback here than over at msgstuff (which I'm hoping I'm wrong) so I'll post it here to be sure; your rss feed no longer works properly with iGoogle. The links point to http://www.msgstuff.com/news/post//.

RE: Need opinions on new msgstuff.com by Voldemort on 08-31-2007 at 02:28 AM

I fixed that issue over 24 hours ago. Does iGoogle keep a cache of your feeds?

I'll be adding forum integration soon.

Does anyone know any good sitemap generators? The one I am using at the moment is outdated and buggy.

Sure seems like it, even with the new posts, I still have the issue.

It's not fixed properly, you seem to have only fixed the url in the link tag not in the guid tag as well (unless FeedBurner haven't updated the feed in 48 hours which seems unlikely)
