Contacts, Dupliates by Anglhrt on 09-09-2007 at 05:11 PM

Everytime I start Messenger it imports my contacts even though they have already been imported.  It does it automatically without being told to.  I then go in and delete them which also deletes them from my hotmail as I'm using Windows Live.  And then have to re-import addresses there.

I have my gmail, earthlink and hotmail set up on my Windows Live Mail with Gmail set as my default.  Any idea why this is happening?

So my message was moved... but is there anyone that is going to try to help answer it or help me figure it out?

To be honest i don't quite get the problem....ofcourse messenger imports your contactlist. Your contact list is stored on a server and it is retrieving it from there, this is also why you can log in anywhere, on any computer and get your contact list. New in Windows Live is that it also caches your contactlist on your comp so in case the server is having problems retrieving your list messenger can read it from the cache (you will see a notification in top of contactlist warning about changes you make).

All contacts you have on messenger will automaticly be a contact in hotmail. If you remove them from messenger they will be deleted from hotmail only if you tell it too when deleting a contact from messenger..you will be prompted when you delete a contact if you wish to delete that contact from hotmail too.

So if after this explanation you still believe there is something not going as should, explain more clearly.

I understand that it imports them from hotmail.  But it keeps importing them in duplicates and triplicates.  I only need one contact of each and I'm getting them twice and three times.

In the same group or in different ones? If in different ones which groups?
