OS recognition by rob_botch on 09-26-2007 at 08:18 PM

I am having a problem, whereby my operating system is not recognized by websites through Internet Explorer, and I am therefore unable to use Microsoft Update. Through Firefox, the OS is identified as Windows NT, which I would assume is correct, because I am using XP.

When using Microsoft Update, I am thanked for my interest, and given a link to their updates for Macintoshs!

Any hints for how to correct this?

Thanks

Robert

Windows XP is NT build 5.2 or something... It should be right

This is the result of some add-on or proxy messing with your User-Agent.  You can see what your current User-Agent string looks like by visiting this page.  If you are lucky, that might provide some clue as to what's responsible for the problem.

Regardless, there are two places you should look to try to fix it:

1) Tools, Manage Add-Ons: examine and disable add-ons one at a time, starting with any you don't recognize.

2) Tools, Internet Options, Connections:  examine connection-specific and LAN Settings for any proxies.
