I don't think there's much about for 8.5 yet, esp. since this is still in beta. But if you want to learn about skinning etc. i think you be best off looking in The Skinning Section Of Mess.be Forums ;)

Skins are multi-language, so it should change the design file (msgsres.dll) and not the language file (msglang.dll). If the installer is Spanish, the skin should be in your default language :).

Skinning hasn't changed for 8.5 really, I suggest reading current tutorials to get an idea how to skin and adjust them to the specific changes. Check out my full tutorial on how to skin Messenger.

thank you. but 8.5.2688.816 is apparently the final release of version 8.5. plus the installer is in spanish... but so is the theme. i can only figure so many of the words. eg En ligne = Online as it is in that drop arrow area. i tried editing the msgsres.dll file... but all of the jpeg's, png's, bit-maps etc have all gone (unless you want to change the look of the online and offline icons). i also tried the executable file but nothing came up. i used "resource hacker" for these files just so you know. il chek out the tutorials in about 7-8 hours as i got to go. pleas be happy to post any replies as i will read them when i get home.

Start skinning on MSN Messenger first for practice. Once you grasp MSN Messenger you can move onto Windows Live Messenger with ease :).

I have to dissapoint you but what i said is true, this is not the final version of 8.5, even tho there are no beta tags it is still very much a beta version.

To back up what i said:

So it IS in the BETA 2 stage. Typical. I still feel like creating a skin anyway. lol

Ok i have done a bit of skinning with MSN Messenger now and most of it makes sense. The tutorial i looked at gave me the resources in a zip folder so that i could see and know what image i would be editing. But since i can't find any resources for 8.5 , is there any way that i can view the raw .PNG code that you see in 'Resource Hacker' as an actual image instead of that raw code? Actually i think they might have changed it to an .RLE file or something like that in WLM 8.5. Hope that makes sense to any of you out there...

By the way thanks for responding so fast before. I love that about this site everyone actually helps each other out. Thanks so much guys :D
