Need Help. Vista Ultimate x64 by Felu on 10-10-2007 at 09:28 AM

Two days ago i had shut down by PC with Vista Ultimate 64-bit installed on it. The next day when i booted it up, I got a blue screen error-

quote:
STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The NT Initial Command Process System Process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000001 (0x00000000 0x00000000).

The system has been shut down.

I'm 100% sure than the system was shut down properly. I've tried System Repair using the Vista DVD but no luck with that. Don't have any previous System Restore to Restore to.

Anyways has any ideas how can i get it to work? Or will i just have to format my HDD and install Vista again?

It was a 80 GB Sata HDD with 2 equal partitions has about 2GB left in both partitions.

If any more details are required, please let me know.

Thanks
Felu

Do you have a backup of your files?

Can you put your HD in other PC and back up the files?

I tired that but turned out that this old computer doesn't support SATA HDDs :(.

Use an external HDD case which suports SATA and plug it through USB to your other PC.

I'll try it tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion.

Download Puppy Linux from here: http://puppylinux.org
Burn it to a CD and then using it burn to a CD/DVD your important data. You should also be able to move your data to a network location, but I'm not sure.

Puppy supports NTFS read/write, but I'm not sure about SATA. Give it a try.

Good...or use any other "Live" OS. It'll probably work.

True, but I like puppy the best because it is easy to use, and fast (runs completely on RAM as long as you have more than 128MB of ram, which I'm pretty sure Felu does since Ultimate requires 512MB of ram or more).
Btw, I suggest you to download the Community Edition (2.15CE) since it includes more tools to burn CDs. Of course, you can also try the latest version (3.00)

Thanks Mike... Gonna give it a try after breakfast :).

This would work on a flash drive aswell, right?

Booting from a flash/USB drive of any kind (AFAIK) is only supported by some BIOSes. Check yours to see if it will boot from USB.

This is why you have at least 2 partitions: 1 for system and 1 for regular files

;)
