Need some new PC Stuff by Eddie on 10-14-2007 at 10:30 AM

Mmm I'm sick of running on a snail mail system for games and stuff...Im looking into buying some new stuff in general i am looking for some new..

  • RAM
  • Graphics Card
  • Speaker System
  • CPU
  • Hard Drive (possibly)
  • Anything else that would help?
Any advice on what brands to go, im looking at 2GIG of Ram because im getting games like Call of Duty 4 when they are released so i want a system that can play the game to its full capability on a 1280x1024 screen resolution. (Preferably nVidia or ATI)

Im looking for cheap-ish prices, i have a max budget of $750 AUD so if anyone can help out it would be great :)

It'd be great if you tell about how much you'd like to spend on all those components.

Well using Centre Com prices I think you're looking at something like this:

Gigabyte GA-P31-DS3L motherboard: $119.90
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600/ 2.40GHz/ 4MB Cache/ 1066FSB/ LGA775: $284.90
Kingston DDR2 2GB PC-5300/667 (2x1GB) CL5 Value Ram: $69.99
Western Digital 320Gb 7200RPM 16Mb SATA 2: $93.00
ASUS EN8600GT-HTDP-512 GF8600GT, 512MB, DDR3, PCIEx16, HDTV, 2xDVI-I, HDCP: $192.00

Total: $759.79

You might also want a new case and possibly a DVD burner.

I have a DVD Burner, and why a new case?

Ive been considering an external HD not an internal one, simply because my box isnt very big and cant store very much, its so weak that it only has 2 ram slots -.-

You can get a case with a 500W PSU for $40 so it isn't exactly going to break the bank and your old PSU might not be compatible with the motherboard.

Also the number of RAM slots is a motherboard issue not a case issue and you'll need to get a new motherboard anyway.

Im starting to get the impression it would be much easier to start form scratch and get a custom made pc *-) but it would be to expensive.

Well if you add $40 for the case then you're looking at $799.79 for the components I suggested. If you take the optical drive out of your old PC then you will have everything you need to build a new PC.
