What Is Your Dream Computer? by Fragged on 04-08-2003 at 06:14 AM

Well for me it's

EpoX EP-8RDA+
AMD Athlon XP 3000+
Radeon 9800
I dunno 1.5 gig ram?
DVDROM
CDRW
17-19 inch monitor

Blah I don't know what I want.. just a nforce2 chipset, athlon and a radeon.

EDIT: Software also if you want,

I would install;

Windows 2000 Pro
Winamp 2.8
Mozilla (;))
MSN Messenger
Games
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
basics needed to survive

I guess that as long that neither Linux or Netscape is installed on it, a good Intel P4 2Ghz with 2Gb of memory (yeah, developing applications takes a lot of memory) and the best Asus motherboard card of the moment would be perfect :). Of coursem the monitor has to be an LCD screen.

RE: What Is Your Dream Computer? by danzo9782 on 04-10-2003 at 09:20 PM

I dont have a specific computer I want, although I would love a laptop. There just isnt enough hours in the day to sit at your computer and do what you want, which is why I need somthing mobile.

I would list my dream computer here... but in a month I would change my mind

As long as it can run the best 3D applications (games) at full settings (GeForce someone?), 6.1 surround (maybe the new Audigy2 Platinum eX) and the latest ATI All In Wonder with the really cool RF remote (2D,3D,DVD,TV,VCR...)

I'm just a multimedia guy...  oh, just forgot, a 21" LCD, a 60" plasma ......... big speakers....

RE: What Is Your Dream Computer? by billywoods1 on 04-15-2003 at 06:46 PM

My dream computer?

One where you didn't have to poke the fan with a pencil to get the computer to boot.

One that didn't take 30 minutes to get the monitor warmed up.

One that I could save a file on and it would still be there the next day.

One that shuts down fully, instead of just half-shutting down then shouting at me tomorrow.

One that, although you've poked the fan, wouldn't overheat even with the case on.

One that you couldn't happily fry eggs on if it weren't for the dust.

One with a CD-writer that actually writes to CDs instead of just destroying them. Or if that's too much, a 'sorry' after each destroyed CD-R would be nice.

One that didn't occasionally make the monitor flicker red, green and blue.

One that I can hear music from, from both speakers at the same time. At least with one pair of my speakers.

One that wouldn't give me random incomprehensible errors whenever something goes wrong. (Could someone let me know what NTLDR is, please??)

One that would work one day and continue to work the next, especially when I haven't done anything to it the previous day.

One that works with updated versions of software (such as Outlook Express 6 with my Hotmail address) as well as the previous versions.

One that doesn't crash every half hour. Oh no, that's Microsoft, isn't it...

One that can multitask. But, failing that, one that can run one program within 5 minutes of closing another.

One where a 56kbps modem can connect to the internet somewhere vaguely near 56kbps, rather than half of it.

Don't care about the specifications. Just something that would do all of the above.

Hmm. Sounds like most of you already have my dream computer.

You lucky, lucky people.

RE: What Is Your Dream Computer? by DABURA on 04-15-2003 at 09:13 PM

 mine too :-/

but its not bcoz of ms, wxp works perfectly but my computer doesn't want to keep on working unless its in a good mood. :P
RE: What Is Your Dream Computer? by billywoods1 on 04-15-2003 at 09:24 PM

Dabura - will this computer be multitasking?

Will you be able to get beer without turning Outlook Express off?

Can you get beer AND type a document at the same time without your computer freezing? The last thing you want is frozen beer.

Does it come with parental controls? (No more than 3 gallons of beer for certain user accounts, maybe?)

Would the beer be compatible with Windows XP?

...and if it's Microsoft's own brand of beer, you can keep the damn stuff!

RE: What Is Your Dream Computer? by scapeg0at on 04-16-2003 at 03:46 AM

A bit...

Mostly Mozilla, Q3A, DF:BHD blah.
RE: What Is Your Dream Computer? by cnet128 on 06-03-2003 at 07:26 PM

Mine would be running mac os x
it would also be running a version of msg plus that works with mac os x
it would also have waaaaaay too much RAM and hard drive space
and a really-really-really-broad-band connection
plus, it would come with an Automatic Animé Locator
And a program that converts any program that is made for windows or linux into an even better version that works on mac os x (which, i guess, solves my second point)
And it would have its own search engine. One that doesn't return any junk, and, failing finding any useful sites, goes and gets all the useful information, files, etc. anyway.
