VERY weird problem with menu bar by SuperSlug on 10-24-2007 at 03:26 PM

OK... For some reason I put the menu bar on, and now I can't get it off!:( The little button on the top right for going back to the default "no menu bar" has vanished and I have not found a single option for getting rid of it in any of the drop down menus. If anyone has any ideas I would be very thankful for advice!
Cheers
:^)

When you maximize your window, the menubar will appear, and the button will vanish just like you said.

This would be problem with Windows Live Messenger, and I don't think it's related to Plus!, but to make sure I'm going to ask you some questions. Are you running Plus! when this happens? Is the same when you run Windows Live Messenger without Plus!?

Ok:

I am running Plus, but even when the window isn't maximized the button isn't there.
I am not sure how to run it without plus.
Interestingly,  when I run windows live messenger plus! using the same hotmail account on the same PC but on a different user on the PC, this problem doesn't occur.

Do you have Enhancer script installed? You can check it from Messenger Plus! Live Preferences > Main > Scripts.

If you see it there, and if you see the checkbox has been ticked, untick it and check again.

Which Messenger Version are you using, because I'm using 8.5 (patched with messpatch and apatch) on Vista Ultimate 32Bit and I'm having a similar issue at the moment, the 'Show the Menu Bar'  option on the button menu keeps disappearing, I've not managed to track it down to anything as of yet.

I don't have the enhancer script installed, so that didn't work;and I am using version 8.1 on XP home edition at the moment. I have already tried reinstalling the version I have (8.1) but I could try upgrading it to 8.5.... Do you think that would help? Where can I download 8.5 from?

Thanks, I have installed 8.5 BUT now it won't actually let me open messenger! I am clicking on the new 8.5 messenger icon in the all programs menu, but nothing happens! Any advice welcome!:^)

Ok, now I can open messeger 8.5 now, but the menu bar is still on all the windows (including the conversation windows). Is the menu bar usually on conversation windows when you show it?

Yes if the show menu bar option is enabled, it's enabled for both convo and contact list.

Well, upgrading to 8.5 hasn't helped anyway.

"Hide menubar" option is here on WLM 8.5 even if you see it On. Can't you even see it there?

No, that option is not there. (see attachment)
I will read those threads though, thanks.

Thanks for the help people, what I did in the end was:

Open messenger

Open the magnifier (start > all programs > accessories > accessibility > magnifier)

Close messenger (sign out, close window, right click on icon in system tray and click exit)

Open messenger again

Close messenger (same steps as above)

Close magnifier

Open messenger - menu bar now gone and options to add and remove it!

Some of these steps might not be necessary, possibly only these steps are needed:

Open messenger

Open magnifier

Close messenger

Close magnifier

Open messenger

But, at least its gone now!

My advice is try what was done before :P

Yeah i think your fix was a mere co-incidence. As mine's been stuck for days now

Just got it fixed by changing the registry key
