Which one is the best? AGP GPU by user27089 on 11-05-2007 at 10:47 PM

GeForce N7600 GS
ATI Radeon 2400 Pro
ATi Radeon X1650 Pro

My limit is ~£60 and I don't want to upgrade anything in my computer as it's just not worth it. My 9600 pro is pretty much destroyed/burnt out so I need a new one asap.

So I just need to know which one of those is the best one for me to buy, 1280x1024, LCD monitor, (not DVI).

AMD Athlon XP 2600 2.1GHz, 1Gb RAM if you need to know any of that[/size]

Also, if anybody wants to send me a dollar or two towards it, then I could really use the cash, stuff with family means not much money at the moment, so come on, $1? :p

traxor[at]gmail.com if you're feeling generous ;)

The game I'm most needing to run is Hellgate: London, as I've been accepted into the UK beta. Need to play CS: Source, Half-Life 2 and the Orange Box too probably.

All those cards will happily run Source-engine games (HL2, Orange Box, CS: Source, etc), and with the settings tuned right, Hellgate should run fine too.

I have a GF 7600GS, im able to play WoW 1280x1024, with all the effects at maximum, with a 30 fps average.

I think CS:S will run smoothly too.

Is it an AGP or a PCI card?

they make PCI 7600s? :p

PCI Express, I do believe so.

RE: Which one is the best? AGP GPU by Apatik on 11-06-2007 at 11:28 PM

I'd go for the 7600GS, or ATI X1650, because although being one generation older than the 2400s, they're also higher end cards, able to deliver a real gaming experience.

So if you don't need DX10 compatibility, ...

You can get PCI versions of the 7600 series, though not sure if the GS does or not.

Thank you for all of your help, most likely to get the ATI version, personal preference, loves them.

Hope everyone here is okay by the way, haven't got a clue myself due to inactivity.

Sent $2(USD) to traxor[at]gmail.com via paypal :). It'll cover fees too.

I have a 512MB X1600 and it's great (wasn't too good at playing Transformers on full graphics, but turned res down to 1028 and lowered all the extra special shit by 1 mark/setting lower and ran fine)

But that's the only game I've ever had trouble with, So X1650 will be really good for you I think.

CS:S does run smoothly. I have MXI NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GS and I've had no problems with it. A bit of lag while playing STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl but that's because I need more RAM :P

Mine is a PCI-E though :)
