"Says:" Can I change that? by The Empty Lord on 11-18-2007 at 11:52 AM

I was wandering if there was or if anyone could make a script that would allow people to change that annoying "says:" bit.

Jack says: Hey
Jill says: Hello

It would be cool to change it to either set ones or customisable...

Jack yells: Hey
Jill screams: Hey
Jack whispers: How do?
Jill rants: Fine thanks, you?

It might be possible via reshacking the messenger file, however if it is possible, it will not be possible on the fly...

You can currently use

quote:
/me yells "hey"

or similar to produce the desired result (in a slightly different way)

Requested a lot and answered several times already. So, always try to search the forums first before requesting something ;)...

CookieRevised's reply to How to get rid of 'SAYS' from msn nickname

^^ talks about how to get rid of the "says:". However, changing it is just the same thing...

Note: This can not be done with a script on-the-fly (in a decent proper clean way without using extremely advanced stuff and/or hacks) as SpunkyLoveMuff already explained (since it involves changing resources).

You can use /action...

If you input /action hi it'll come out:

Your nick hi

instead of Your nick says: hi

But it also changes color... so maybe it's not quite what you want.

Someone can make a script for you that you could click on what type of action you want to "talk".

Idea for whoever has the time and will to make this one:

Combo box with the values: whispers, says, moans, groans, mumbles, etc.. user picks what he wants in this combobox in the chatwindow and his message gets added /action (choice) message in the sendmessage event.

I'm not too good making the chat window and options part and the rest is pretty easy but if anyone m akes the first part I'll do the rest.

Have fun.

You can change that by hexing your messenger.
WARNING! It does make your messenger unstable!

If you follow the instructions in Cookie's post, it does not change anything to messenger's stability.

You'll also be able to change that easily with Messenger Plus! skins.

Hold on, yes he would be able to see it wouldn't he? as you're only changing it on your side?

Contradiction here...

Anyways...

No, your contact will not see the change.

Changing stuff like that is only done on your side; only you will see the change. You're contact will see the normal "says:". The same goes for anything else you change in the 'looks' of Messenger (eg: skins).
