FireFox 3.0 Beta! by Quantum on 11-22-2007 at 11:41 PM

For all you guys that don't know firefox 3.0 beta is out :) Its quite buggy and the big thing that annoys me is that the bookmarks bar wont work yet =p as its only beta 1 i cant complain :P

Theres not much that looks different. There are new features i can see lol.

Upgrade at your own risk (it runs smoothly but page loading is weird)

RE: FireFox 3.0 Beta! by mynetx on 11-23-2007 at 12:20 AM

so have I, about 30-35 :D

RE: FireFox 3.0 Beta! by Lou on 11-23-2007 at 01:08 AM

I think that since it didn't allow me to have both the current version running, and the old one, that I'll wait until it's released as a non-beta build to use it.

Same I got 31 add-ons, so I can't upgrade because they won't be compatible :P

Not hearing any good news about Firefox 3.0 anyway, apart from a memory test in which FF 3 showed better.

I don't get it. FF2 shows lower mem usage for 2 out of 3 tests, the third being with 12 pages open. So normal users who only have a few tabs are going to see a higher mem usage with FF3, correct? :S

the bookmarks bar works fine, it wouldn't have been released as beta 1 without it working.

Awesome bar > *

(Awesome bar is the new location bar http://ed.agadak.net/2007/11/smartbar-to-awesomebar)

* -dt- is currently using the latest trunk

Once Mr Tech's Local Install works, so I can make old Extensions compatible. I'll use it.

Did for me =s

Installs into a different folder

john-t: what are you on about? The bookmarks work fine Hmm, doesn't seem to work all the time. And why don't you link to the actual Mozilla download page? =/
RE: FireFox 3.0 Beta! by markee on 11-23-2007 at 08:17 AM

Awesome bar is GREAT and I have both the old stable build and new beta running at the same time so I don't know what you are on about =\

Personally I think I'm going to wait before switching over, hopefully B2 will be more reliable.  Also I find that I have some serious CPU usage when I try to close the browser and it lasts for about 15sec.

For some reason I can't delete entire history folders by hitting Del button, only works with right click > delete ;[

RE: FireFox 3.0 Beta! by Ezra on 11-23-2007 at 03:36 PM

I'm running nightlys but I disabled the compatibility checking so my extensions run normal, except if they don't have a secure update url.

It's running very stable for me, never having any problems and the features are very nice, (full page zoom, places, quick search)

Gecko 1.9 is good too.

Same :( Hope the improve the speed too.  1.5 was faster than 2.0 and 2.0 is faster that 3.0. Its still beta i know but its annoying. I dotn want to remove it yet..
RE: FireFox 3.0 Beta! by vaccination on 11-23-2007 at 04:29 PM

Bookmarks copied fine for me too, you guys are dodgy :P

RE: FireFox 3.0 Beta! by Matti on 11-23-2007 at 05:07 PM

Tried it here too, nothing too great at the moment. I do love the new download manager (nice and clean! (y)) but I prefer using all my FF2 extensions 'n stuff a bit longer. :)

RE: FireFox 3.0 Beta! by Quantum on 11-23-2007 at 05:11 PM

Most of my add-ons have updates for 3.0.

I'll wait a little while before I get it, considering the bugs that you're reporting.

One thing I hear they have cleaned up is the memory usage of Firefox on Xorg- Firefox 3 no longer frobs the X server, leaking render buffers. It's about time- a few [5? 6?] days of normal usage crash Firefox and X on my Thinkpad.
RE: FireFox 3.0 Beta! by bobby2000 on 11-26-2007 at 04:26 PM

The whole thing works fine for me... only problem is i have way too many add-ons lol... i like song bird though!
