iPod software by Th3rmal on 11-30-2007 at 04:58 AM

is it possible to upgrade my iPod Video software/firmware (the model that came out before he current models) to the new iPod Video software/firmware. I want this because i want the new features in the new software such as the album cover preview that takes up half the screen.

help much appreciated.

PS: sorry if it doesnt make much sense i wrote this in a hurry...

try just updating from within itunes

if not then it's probably an issue just that they're different styles of ipod so can't have the same update

like trying to update and old nano to play video like the new ones do......it just wouldn't be possible

i see what you mean, i have already upgraded my software on my ipod, thats how this idea came about, so unless i can download a diff software somewhere else, i cant get it from iTunes.

well if you were using something like, oh, say, a Zune, you'd be able to update to the Zune 2 firmware without buying a whole new device

I've screwed up my iPod a couple of times trying to install iPodLinux and I have always been able to restore it back to factory defaults.(Y)

Am I going to lose my songs installing this?
RE: iPod software by absorbation on 12-01-2007 at 04:35 PM

I believe this is just a skin and not the actual firmware, so it won't be as good as Apple's design.

It looks pretty much the same though... its the graffti design I'm intrested in anyway, but like I say, I don't want to lose my songs...

As long as all your songs are still in iTunes you shouldn't lose them if you have to restore, but if you don't have to restore your iPod then nothing will be lost because it modifies the firmware. If you don't trust iTunes you could always enable disk use and copy everything on your iPod (Don't forget to show hidden files so you can copy the iPod_control folder) to a backup folder.

Well I'm changing the filmware so as far as I'm aware, I wont lose anything, but I'll back up my songs, just in case, cheers man.

EDIT: It worked! My iPod is the best!
