Is it me or is the skinning engine weak/basic/limited? by riahc4 on 12-09-2007 at 11:10 PM

Hey

Im seeing alot of mock-ups and early skins and IMO it looks really weak...Yes Beaver and Steve for example looks pretty good but it still seems like the same old messenger just with other colors. I dont know maybe it s me.

WTF are you on about? Skinning is not just straight forward. You need to edit elements etc. in UIFiles, which're not documented really, and use XML code. Next time please try to research before posting. Also, I'd love to see one of your "skins".

Anyway, to answer your question skinning is not limited really.

Why dont you make your own skin and surprize us?

RE: Is it me or is the skinning engine weak/basic/limited? by albert on 12-09-2007 at 11:20 PM

The engine is pretty strong, it is the current skins that do not use everything.

Edit : would you guys just answer his damn question instead of always bitching?
Like really, most skins are just different colorization. And not a lot are impressive in a way it changes everything about WLM. Both you and I know it, why do you have to act like kids and come up with such posts? He bothers you? Don't answer his question!

It's just you, it takes FAR too long for any of us to code "uber skin to impress riahc4" before release date during testing

Did you even see/use Evo3?

Willz did an uber good job

Of course its limited, you still have to stick roughly to messengers layout in most windows and of course you are still restricted to what WLM can handle (like for those expecting Glass and Aero Enabled skins forget about it).

If you think this is restricted, I bet you would have hated how skinning was before Plus added these features in :P Trust me that was REALLY restricted :P

I wasnt expecting it but it would have been very nice but of course this is dependent on the Messenger team and not Patchou.

LOL gotta love duck! :P

What exactly did you want/expect riahc4?

RE: Is it me or is the skinning engine weak/basic/limited? by Chrono on 12-10-2007 at 12:02 AM

The thing is, dear riahc4, that there are only like 10 skins available now, so i doubt we've seen the potential of this feature yet. It's like judging the scripts engine by the very first scripts released :P

The current skins were developed during the testing process so most of them are just that, test skins from some testers :P. Just be patient, i know we'll get cool stuff soon (although Ev03 is pretty cool and is available now)

why not? as you can see from the beaver and steve skin, transparency is supported, so why can't you do glass?
RE: Is it me or is the skinning engine weak/basic/limited? by Willz on 12-10-2007 at 12:27 AM

that isnt transparency its a frame mask which is completely different. If you notice there isn't anything else that has been given that effect, its simply because WLM can't handle it.

how's it completely different? all you need for glass is to have part of the client area be 100% transparent...
RE: Is it me or is the skinning engine weak/basic/limited? by Willz on 12-10-2007 at 12:31 AM

I know the concept is simple and believe me I still don't get why WLM doesn't like it, but it's just the way things are.

If you don't believe me, try it out. All you will end up getting is a fully pitch black window.
