This is more of a query than a problem.
I have the latest version of MPL, but I only have WLM 8.1. I want to get 8.5 but I'm not sure if this will affect MPL, or if I should just upgrade straight to WLM 9 instead.
Advice?

It won't affect MPL.

Correct. 8.5 will run perfectly.
If you want to upgrade to 9.0 please note that 9.0 is a Beta and not everything _completly_ works in 9.0

Where can I get 8.5 from?
What I downloaded from here is the installer for 8.1
