Installing a Hard Disk Drive by welsh_pcwhiz on 12-23-2007 at 01:37 PM

I'm having problems installing a new Samsung HDD into my Evesham 651M-L/650GM-L Series PC.
I can find all connectors etc., but my problem is that I can't find where to mount the actual HDD.

Can anyone help please!?

(I can give more information if required.)
:)

Well it all depends on what PC case you have  Look for your other Hdd. It goes above or below that.

I know where the other HDD is and I've looked to put the new one there, but there's no casing for it (there is casing for the current one).
My current HDD is mounted vertically against the right-hand-side of the case below the Floppy drive.

Any suggestions why there's no case, or how to about fitting the new HDD?

Well as I said in my other post.. We need to know what PC Case you have. Pictures would be even more helpful.

OK, since your pc is so cramped, you're going to have a very, very hard time getting a second disk in there. Depending on how much clearance there is between the power supply and the motherboard, you may be able to use thick double sided tape or velcro strips to hold the disk to the top of your power supply. This typically wouldn't be recommended, but you don't really have room for it anywhere else.

I would suggest an external drive, but if you already bought the new disk you're a little out of luck.

I've been told that almost every PC has to have room for 2 HDD (I'm told that mine should have), and the connections for another HDD are all there.
I'm a bit confused as why the manufacturer (Evesham) haven't supplied casing for an extra HDD, unless it is OK to velcro it to something...?

All PCs I've seen have come with 2 slots, but it's not always the case. My HDD is just dangling towards the floor. Well... y'know, fuck it :p

Yeah same, it's not the proper way, but a case is not really required. What it matters is the power connector and the IDE connector.

With those 2 you have a working drive.

Try putting it next to your current drive vertically just hanging... just be careful the cables are not too tight and could get disconnect easily...

Anyways I would suggest also an external drive...

As I found with my old pre-built PC, manufacturers don't expect you to be tinkering with them, and leave you virtually no space, hardly any expansion slots and a whole lot of mess.

another reason why home-built > * :cheesy:

just get an external drive enclosure, then you can just put your current drive you just purchased in the enclosure.

It shouldn't be that bad, but i agree with what you're saying. There isn't much choice in that case anyways.
