Video Carousel? by Ashley_H on 12-23-2007 at 02:36 PM

Question; What the heck is the Video Carousel? Ever single version of MSN/WLM I have had there has always been an option (Under the general tab in the options window) for a Viedo Carousel but the option is always disabled and I cannot turn it on.

1) What is it?
2) How would I be able to get it activated?

The video carousel i have noticed only appears on certain accounts of mine, but it is something that comes up at the bottom of your Windows Live Messenger screen and you can simply scroll through certain videos.

EDIT: This is more of an "i think" reply.

It's only enabled for certain countries/country specific emails/passport registered emails. afaik

It's annoying as I'd rather a video carousel than a shitty roll-over ad on my messenger any day

There are probably legality/rights/permissions issues regarding it in the UK and other countries, whereas MS can 'get away with it' in the US. I guess it's similar to competitions and charity stuff too, the I'm codes only serve their true purpose in US and Canada I think and most competitions and offers are only eligible for entry by current US citizens

The code is probably only protected under US code or some bull...

And it shows their American video content from NBC or something, which we don't have in the UK as standard there are probably publishing and sponsorship issues like that too which come into play.

Change your country setting from your Windows Live ID Account page to US (maybe some other countries support it but I don't know). But you may find that advertisement rolling again and agaiin a bit annoying.

Actually if Messenger can hide that option for people who can't use that, it will be good, because they already hide the "Windows Live Today window's" option from the Options for unsupported regions.
