suddenly i dont hear anything by dr_nelson on 12-25-2007 at 09:28 AM

Dear forum

I have Win Vista installed and i am using live messenger Version 2008 - build 8.5. 1302.1018.

It worked fine... video chat functioned, i could have nice chats with my familiy who lives abroad.

But suddenly, this problem occured: i can't hear my contacts anymore. Doesn't matter who it is. But they can all hear me fine, and video works fine too.

I uninstalled an re-installed messenger live. I also tried to install older versions. But it didn't work.

I know my speakers are working, cuz i can listen to music, i receive notification sounds from live messenger and SKYPE works, i.e. I can hear my contacts (but skype doesn't work properly, a lot of interruptions etc.).
And of course, speakers nor mics are muted, but fully opened.
I only have windows firewall installed, and live messenger is flagged as exception to work.

So, I am lost now. And i am looking for help.
Would be great, if someone could give me a hand, since i am not into computers very much.

Thx a lot in advance!

x-mas greetings from Switzerland,

dr_nelson

Can you try enabling every channel for sounds like MIDI, Wave, CD Audio etc. In XP I can reach them from Control Panel, Audio, Speech and Music Devices category. In Vista it may be in a different location but when you find options for sound device, make sure no channel is muted there.

Or you could double click on the volume icon...
