URL-encoded characters appear in nicknames. by Consem on 12-28-2007 at 04:25 PM

Hello,

Logged onto Messenger yestarday and found people have %20%20%20%20%20 in their Messenger name's .. I asked a few friend's if they have the problem and 2 of them who are running on XP said, yes they also have the %20%20%20%20%20 in a few of their contact's names .. so this cannot be a OS related problem. So I un-installed Messenger and Plus! .. then installed Messenger and Plus! again, rebooted and the problem still occurs.

My (!VER) details

Windows Vista Home Premium (6.0.6000)
Windows Live Messenger 8.5.1018
Messenger Plus! Live 4.50.0.312

I have 2 screenshot's below, I have asked permission of a few contact's to keep their name's in, and I have totally wiped out some people's name's for their privacy, so, colours on some contacts work, some I just get the %20%20%20%20%20NAME thing.

Thanks.

Funnily enough, my friend who is using Vista said he was having similar problems. Not sure what's the cause of it though.

Messenger Plus! does not change the names of your contacts in the contact list. If you see them wrong there, then it's definitively a Messenger bug.
