[Preview] MesOrby - The Transparent WLM Skin by Keikonium on 12-29-2007 at 01:53 AM

For the lack of a better name, I am here to show you a work in progress of my skin MesOrby. Basically, it will be similar to the current WLM, but it will have a spanning background (which will be user definable hopefully in the future) across all the main windows of WLM and the toasts. And all the elements within those windows will be enclosed inside transparent boxes.

So here is a preview of what I have been up to for the past month:

(Click for a larger image)

Current Features:
- Ability to show/hide all the default WLM buttons in the dashboard
- Button made to open SKIN preferences
- Buttons from Mess Patch in skin by default (prefs, sign out, etc)
- Move the contact search bar to the bottom
- Hide the search bar completely
- Hide/show top black header (where the window buttons are)
- Changing WLM color changes the background image

Features currently in the works:
- Hide/show Plus! buttons
- Move entire top header to the bottom
- More backgrounds that colorize well
- Chat window options (gotta think of some)

Possible future features:
- Use different default emoticons
- Color themes for the transparent boxes (so they don't have to be white)
- User selectable background
- WLM 9.0 compatibility (probably not until final)

To-do list:
- Toasts
- Chat window layout (its almost done, but looks a bit sloppy)
- Change DP in main contact list window
- Minor fixes/tweaks/replacements
- Think of a better name
- Status icon replacements
- Window button replacement
- New images thru out messenger

Currently I have halted development since I started making the skin on a patched WLM, and it's gonna be a pain in the ass to transfer my changes over to a fresh unpatched messenger. So until I do that, I wont have an ETA on a release, but I just wanted to give everyone a preview of what will be available sometime next year :). I don't think I left anything out...

Thoughts?

Thank you TRash :). The contact list was easy. The default white background that you see with a fresh WLM, all I did was make that transparent. There you have your box.

The header (PSM, name etc) was a bit more complicated. I replaced the default blue header with a 1x1 pixel 100% transparent png. Then I added a new element to 'wrap' the header in a transparent box. I added a border, added some padding, and moved the icons into the header. Viola, I had a box up there too :).

I hope that made sense :S.

Now that is a damn good skin :). Hopefully you'll consider making it compatible with 9.0.

Edit: Looked closer at the background, thought I'd note that I currently have that set as my desktop background :D.

Indeed, looks very nice, keep up the good work, and hope for 9.0 support :)

Please stop begging people for 9.0 support, it's barely even beta ready standard and the internal XML is very different, a change that affects layout such as this is going to be hard to do for 9.0

Looks really good, looking forward to this one.
And I see rise against.. ;)(Y)

Thank you ^_^. I am not to sure if I can include the background I am currently using, since it isn't my property. I can't remember where I found it either... deviantart probably tho.

The code I have changed to make the layout look as it doesn't isn't THAT extensive, but still, making it 9.0 ready most likely wont be added until the 9.0 final (but I'll see what happens :P).

Really beautifu!!
But, how did u do the transparent buddy list?

And, just to confirm, argb with 0,0,0,0 is the same as "Transparent" ?

Thank you :). I explained on the first page how I did the transparent buddy list I am pretty sure.

And yeah argb with 0,0,0,0 is the same as being entirely transparent (invisible). It's really only the first 0 that determines how visible something is. argb = alpha, red, green, blue. The rgb mix together to create any color you could want. The a determines its transparency. The higher the number, the more opaque (visible) it is, and the lower the number, the more transparent it is with 0 being completely invisible.

I guess I didn't explain fully on the first page anyways lol.

Anywhooo...

Open up the 1001 Style file and search for the following:
Element[ID=Atom(ai558)]

You should see a background entry. Change it to the following:
Background:argb(128,255,255,255);

Do the same for:
Element[ID=Atom(ai559)]

That should work for you. I think that's all I did to make it transparent.

I tried this one here and didn't work, but i already did it, thanks anyway! =)

now i need to put that contact search transparent the same way...it's the last thing to update from version 1.0 to 1.1...

Edit: i found out how to do it, and explained in a new thread, you forgot to mention the ai550 and the border colors...thats waht was missing
