Last I tried, a random address worked, not sure about the card though. Does it still ask for a CC?

It asks for a credit card now?? Weird. My account must be too old, when I signed up it didnt ask me for one, and i've used an iTunes card as recently as October 2007 without any hassles for one.

Usually you have to have CC details to create an account. This way you don't...
Sign out of your pommy account.
Go to iTunes music store home page.
Click 'Redeem' under the quick links section.
Choose the 'gift certificate' part and enter in your code.
Click on redeem and it tells you to sign in/create an account. If you go to the create an account bit via this method you'll be able to register without a credit card.

The only way I managed to do it was by registering on http://myinfo.apple.com and then clicking redeem in the iTunes store, entering the code, and only then was I given the option of no credit card.
