[Suggestions] Reps email notificafication / url links in reps by warmth on 01-09-2008 at 04:28 PM

Hey guys... Today I was thinking that maybe could be useful to have an option to get notification when a rep post is given/edited to you... and the ability of use [url=?][url] code to insert external links in rep posts...

what do you think about it??? :$

I was going to ask about the linking to rep's myself. I think this is a good idea and voted yes both.

I don't see a need for mail on rep. There's no need for users to take any action when they received a rep... they'll notice soon enough when they got repped when they see one of their own posts. I think mailing on new reps will only increase payback reps and repwhores.

That's a good point... I can't assume that everybody here are going to respect all the rules... :(

Oh, yeah, HYPOCRITE.

There's no need to mail for every new rep/change...

i wonder if there is a limit on the time of editing your rep :P (if there isn't, then there probably will be some people making the board send spam)

URL links on reps will be ok.

And one suggestion from me: When we are viewing our own reputations we can see a link at the bottom of the page: "[View votes given by ahmetgns]". However I want to see this line for every member's reputation report page to see how they voted for people. If I manually edit the link on that line and type another member's id, it doesn't allow me to access that page :) Can you add this?

I would like to have url tags work in reps, because I don' want to copy-paste the url in my rep by warmth  to check if it started to work :P

warmth, the url you entered for my reputation doesn't seem to work, I tried it several times but I couldn't open it :P, please check it asap.

That is like this on purpose. WDZ mentioned that it really wasn't any body's business (except the staff and those members themselves) how any body repped any body else.

There should be no need to link to anything other than the forums. Hence writing tid=number or pid=number (which works in reps, but not in posts).

Emailing of reps is a ridiculous idea imo.

I agree. (n)

I agree with that too. People rarely place external URLs in rep comments... the comments only support what they need to, nothing more.

It's not that hard to highlight a URL and drag it into your address bar anyway... don't be lazy :zippy:

Yeah, because I designed it that way. :) :refuck:

The page is available to admins because it's useful when checking for rep system abusers, but I don't think it should be public. Sorry. =p

Use Google's cache: http://www.google.com/search?q=FatherPeffley+Humility :p

No.. Just checking your reputation page once in a time should be enough.

Why would you need to insert external links into a reputation reason that is supposed to rate a user based only on his activity in this forum ? :-/

Being able to link to posts (pid=yxyyx) and threads (tid=yxyyx) is sufficient, imo.

If by "linking to reps" you mean something similar to linking to posts/threads with pid/tid, then this is not exactly what warmth suggested, but I would agree that linking to other reps might be useful.

Like in "omg paybackrep, see rep=yxyx"
(not sure if this would be possible with the current reputation system, though)

NO. I wouldn't want you to see the reps I gave others because that's a thing between me and the user I gave the reputation to. :-/ (admins seeing that page is okay though, and needed)

edit: bleh, i'm too slow.. didn't notice your reply when i posted this, wdz

I tried that but I think there is problem with IE7 and dragging links or highlighted texts. I even reported something about this problem: Links can't be drag&drop contacts on desktop windows from IE Firefox works like you said but IE doesn't. Anyway, I read that page thanks to Google.
