I have checked Messenger Plus >Preferences > Messenger and I don't have an option to run multiple accounts at once.
I am running Vista and messenger 8.5

the option should be under the "customize" tab

Thanks Scott, found it!!! All the documentation referred to the Messenger tab so I was looking there.
