Well, i wanna "buy" some anti-virus, anti spyware etc software. im not sure what to get, ive heard norton, and mcafee are good, are there any other better ones?

Nod32 has to be the best paid software i've used in a while..
But free antivirus does the job just as well.

Norton sucks, however, Symantec Anti-Virus is pretty good to pay for. I haven't had any real problems with it on my XP machine (XP will be on my laptop by the time I force Vista out of it) since I can't stand Norton Internet Security.
I personally don't recommend all-in-one softwares that much, but eh.. I do use Ad-Aware (the free one works just fine) and Windows Defender (for the time being until I can find something better to manage) for spyware.

I have got to say by far that McAfee is pretty sucky. If you havent done your weekly scan, it shows "Attention", but it changes security status to good as soon as you Start a system scan (so, technically, you could scan one file and cancel and you'd suddenly be "Good"). It's also got REALLY SLOW definition response times, they used to be good but now they're slow.

Kaspersky Internet Security is what I use. It's meant to be the best protection at the moment and I agree with that. I'd recommend it to you.

Too bad some of you guys haven't payed for your anti-virus. These companies are working very very hard, looking up almost every new virus, and adding it to the database. It's not fair for them.
I know that it's out of my business, but at least you shouldn't recommend it to others.
On the question: I would say any decent anti-virus is enough. I've used NOD32 for a while lately, and I find it a lot faster and less annoying than other (yellow-windowed) anti-viruses.

I want my AV to only show me anything when there's something wrong (except for the tray icon maybe, but Norton's is 3-4 times as big as a regular one).

symantec. I was a computer tech for 4 1/2 years during highschool. its the best way to go dude. I got it for the whole entire school system and they havent had a bug problem since.
