The documentation is quite clear on how to do it and what you need to do it with.

1. Read the documentation
2. Get yourself an XML editor (XML Spy, XML Pad etc.)
3. Experiment with the example in the documentation
4. Get yourself some Man U pictures you wish to use in the skin
5. Get creative :)

If you are stuck take a look at the tutorials already available on this forum and how it's done in already available skins. If that doesn't help you can post a thread asking for help on those specific things you are stuck on (don't forget to search first, many things have threads already).

Good luck!

Ohh, and the skin directory is located at C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! Live\Skins ;)

ok but which of them XML editors is the best

any of them, for doing all my work i use notepad++ a basic text editor that does syntax highlighting (not much for xml though)

So how do i create one with a picture

RE: Im a newbie and i need help by NanaFreak on 01-16-2008 at 07:36 AM

what do you mean 'a picture'? like a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor? they dont exist to do this stuff

RE: Im a newbie and i need help by jonesy123 on 01-16-2008 at 07:46 AM

In the tutorial it says you can use a .jpg

RE: Im a newbie and i need help by NanaFreak on 01-16-2008 at 07:50 AM

yea, you can insert images into your skin, in any format (png, jpg, bmp) if that is what your wanting

you just need to read the skinning documentation to learn how to skin :) its not too hard to do

If you had read the skinning docs you would, it's all there.

Specifically, for replacing pictures, read the "Your First Skin" part, under Getting Started. And I mean read it, you can't just skim through, you need to read and understand it. Sometimes this might mean reading it two or 3 times, but it's the only way to learn and the way everyone else has learned.

When I started skinning I read it a couple of times and then started making my skin and had to still refer to the documentation you have to replace the pictures by using tags and there pictures ID (if your not sure what ID's to use look in the extracted resources there is an option in the MP!L window under skins just click extract resources) you should be able to make a basic skin with the documentation and add other features with it from tutorials on this forum

OK but... one more question ;)
How do i find the picture ID

RE: Im a newbie and i need help by Spunky on 01-16-2008 at 06:52 PM

Try reading the skinnig guides posted by Willz:

Willz Skinning Guide

Also like I said in my previous post you can look in the extracted resources to find the ID's

Get the first part of my guide which shows what UIfile does what and then look in the consolidated windows section of the extracted resources and you can see what ID's go where.
