RE: iPods by Dane on 01-16-2008 at 07:13 AM

Can't you "Manually Manage Music" in iTunes and then copy it across from there?

You can't copy music off the iPod in iTunes, only on to.
RE: iPods by vaccination on 01-16-2008 at 08:52 AM

I thought you could get iTunes to sync to your iPod, tell it to put all the songs in the library and make sure you have the option to make it copy all songs to an iTunes music folder, then you could just copy them out of that folder?

RE: iPods by Shippo on 01-16-2008 at 09:45 AM

I copied all of my songs from my iPod directly from it. o.o; No programs or anything at all. I didn't have a good backup of my songs and my iPod was the only thing I keep updated mostly since I love the songs I listen to.

I don't know if the same method works for the iPod Touch since I find it over-priced for a total of 16 GB of space (at least, that's my take on it) considering I can get 80 GB at a lower price. However, it is one method you could possibly try. If I remember correctly, you'll have to set your system settings to see hidden files/folders. The only drawback to the method is that you'll have to manually rename all of the files after you copy them to the computer. At least, that's what I had to do.

That won't work as the iPod Touch doesn't have the ability to be seen as an external drive like the previous iPods.
RE: iPods by Shippo on 01-16-2008 at 11:57 AM

Ahh.. I don't own it, so it was worth a try. Oh well... I haven't figured out Winamp's plugin myself, so I couldn't really help.

RE: iPods by YourNeibour on 01-18-2008 at 08:08 PM

I thought all ipod's came with there own software.  But I think you can download Itunes.

Umm not trying to be rude,  but i know you can use iTunes to transfer music TO the iPod, but if you read the thread, you would know that i wanted to copy music FROM my iPod to me computer, and iTunes cannot do that

that doesn't work either, not possible
If you own an older ipod and copy them directly, you don't keep the appropriate filenames, etc...

Winamp is decent but copypod sucks at it
Buuuuuuuuuuuuuut,
Floola does a great job, and can copy everything in different ways, like /artist/album/ and custom filenames, but i can't remember if it supports the iPod Touch, MediaMonkey does the job even better and nicer, and can play everything in the ipod, and it's very nice and fast for very big music collections, it can copy to the ipod, extract from the ipod, repair the ipod's database, it's nice.

Winamp doesn't need a plugin anymore

btw, Jimbo, if you'd like to have stuff available when you connect to the internet/lan with your ipod touch, you might wanna look into winamp's orb extension(shown when you're installing) which enables you to stream stuff videos, music, etc. from liek everywhere to your ipod, without using it's space...
RE: iPods by Jimbo on 01-18-2008 at 08:44 PM

Thanks for the long post! and im dling media monkey now, hope it works with the Touch:)
And about winamp orb, i already use it:P thanks :)

EDIT: Media monkey doesnt work with the Touch, probably because the Touch doesnt support disk use

RE: iPods by Voldemort on 01-18-2008 at 09:09 PM

try floola, it doesn't say it's compatible but it says some shiz about never ipods, so it's worth taking a look

RE: iPods by Jimbo on 01-19-2008 at 07:33 PM

Foola doesnt work either :(

RE: iPods by djdannyp on 01-19-2008 at 07:42 PM

http://www.yamipod.com

i did a quick google search and found this.  Doesn't say on the site if it's Touch compatible or not but it's worth a try

RE: iPods by Voldemort on 01-19-2008 at 07:50 PM

Yamipod is pretty much the same as Floola

RE: iPods by albert on 01-20-2008 at 12:38 AM

Hum I wonder if you connect to your ipod touch via wifi if you'd be able to drag and drop your tunes. I think it'd fairly do-able. :P

Oh.. Sorry about that. That was the only thing I could think of.
Edit : Well, wait, if the music's tags (as artists, album and name track) are there, do you really care what the song's file name is?

Lol nope

what precisely didn't work about it?

it does exactly what you asked for

it's ipod touch compatible

it's freeware

i fail to see how that's not good enough.....unless the programme description is lying.....
RE: iPods by scott2010_h on 01-20-2008 at 06:03 AM

This should work for your iPod Touch although it is only a 15 day trial.

As for the filename being random letters and numbers you can use MP3tag to rename the files using the tag info.
RE: iPods by Vilkku on 01-20-2008 at 10:03 AM

If you set your iPod to manual mode, and then display hidden files and folders you can access the iPod as a drive and you should be able to copy off the music files like they were on a separate HDD. Problem is they won't have the real names so it might take some time to find what you are looking for.

The Touch doesn't have the "use as disk" feature like the other iPods.
