Someone else reported this problem before, i think it had something to do with missing fonts on the system?

It is here, however that guy installed latest 4.50.312 version and it was fixed spontonously: I can't see the buttons in msn live plus

I recommend you to make a clean install of Messenger Plus! Delete the folder (C:\Program Files\Messeger Plus! Live) and registry entries after uninstalling it firstly (To clean registry, do these steps: Start>Run>regedit>OK then browse for HKEY_CURRENT_MACHINE>Software>Patchou, and HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>Patchou. Delete these keys). Restart your computer. Then download latest version (currently 4.50.312) and run it again.

If you cannot fix the problem, you can learn some of the texts in the buttons of Plus! windows in that thread of which I gave the link. I hope you won't need it.
