[Request] Pass IM message to Bluetooth cell phone message by riahc4 on 02-09-2008 at 03:16 PM

Here's a challenge :P

Sometimes I leave my PC on to download something and I go to sleep with my phone beside me. I think a good (and a clap then some for who can pull this off) script would be that any message I recieve it gets sent thru Bluetooth to my cell phone. Im not sure how other cell phones/mobile OSs act but my Nokia E70/Symbian 9.1 phone recieve all Bluetooth transmissions as a message. Therefore this script would get the message sent by the contact, send it as a Bluetooth text message to my cell phone, and I would be able to read it.

Reply I think would be asking for too much and besides thats not a Plus! script; It would have to be a Symbian application which is a whole nother world.

Would be good if you have a large apartment/house, your laptop is in the bedroom, your cooking in the kitchen and someone IMs you something important.

Im just thinking this is pretty hard to do.

I was looking into using bluetooth in a script a while back, but there aren't any good ways to communicate without without using windows own bluetooth.dll... Then you'd have to make a text file, send it (not all phones can open text files btw), possibly have to pair with it and enter a pass code...

Too much work I think... Maybe one could be done to send a text though

* Spunky has idea now... go away

Bluetooth's capabilities limit it to 10 meters, on most devices, without anything in the way... so both devices would need to be VERY close

this is something i want someone to have a look into as i don't have a lot of knowledge of connecting with bluetooth but i did have an idea to control a few basic messenger functions with a second PS3 sixaxis/dualshock 3 bluetooth controller paired with the PC instead of the PS3 so that i can view messages when playing PS3

That is a possible solution.  It is not the best, but is something for now at least.

10 meters? You must have a pretty cheap USB Bluetooth adapter.

I have a 100meter USB Bluetooth adapter and I get perfect range. Only 20 bucks.

did you even read your own link :P

Bluetooth is a standard and communications protocol primarily designed for low power consumption, with a short range (power-class-dependent: 1 meter, 10 meters, 100 meters) based on low-cost transceiver microchips in each device.[1]

also read the section below it which says that the range can be extended by using a more powerful class

yes but if you read the section below in that Wikipedia article it says the range can be extended when using one of the more powerful devices in combination with it. so using his computer 100m device and his mobile he should be able to get past 10m :P
RE: [Request] Pass IM message to Bluetooth cell phone message by Voldemort on 02-26-2008 at 04:23 AM

but not 100 m so its wrong :P

in theory he could reach 100m with the usb bluetooth plug, just not in connection to his phone, which indeed has a class 2 (10m) bluetooth chip. (I got the same)

chair, why not use a Symbian WLM client? Google and you will find there are a few out there. The E70 doesn't have WLAN just to show off with, it's meant to be used too ;)
unless you don't have a wireless network ofcourse :P
